FROM THE EAST
My Brothers –
We had an excellent Grand Visitation to open the year and I’d like to thank everyone who came out to meet and listen to the Most Worshipful Grand Master and his staff. Unfortunately, this month’s Trestleboard has been much harder to write than any others. I generally have a tough time sharing these types of things, but feel the need to add some comments about a great man and Mason that shaped who I am today. My father, Wallace R Jones, laid down his working tools this month but left behind some very useful lessons that I hope will shine during my journey through the East and beyond. He passed on much of what I’ve learned through his own actions, and even as some of those lessons were ‘What Not to do’, they have been invaluable. I’ve learned about fairness, dedication, and most of all unwavering love for family, friends, and Brothers. I learned that not every situation is ideal, but you will get through it if you stay true to yourself and keep a steady course. I’ve also learned that cruelty and injustice are not to be tolerated in any situation, and compassion and understanding can return a much better reward. So many more I could mention, but I will close this list with an important one, I’ve learned that every prank pulled MUST be returned in kind… We should all learn as we travel through this life and I am proud to say I had one of the best teachers out there. We also lost one of our original Granite members, Worshipful Jack Quillen. Jack was a pillar in the Masonic community and will be deeply missed. FROM THE WEST Greetings from the West -
In gathering my thoughts for this month's trestle board, resilience seemed to be a recurring theme...in the few short days since my last entry we've suffered losses from within our ranks that strike close to home, and we've made new relationships, and welcomed new people into our lives and into our fraternity. These extreme points of the compasses are a testament to our resilience and our ability to unify, adapt, cooperate, and progress as a species, as a nation, as a fraternity, and as an extension of family. I won't bore you with mundaneness or cliches, but for me resilience is that capacity to learn and heal from experience which promotes growth in wisdom and compassion. This doesn't just relate to Masonic principles, I contend that they're practical observations that befit all mankind. As the spring approaches and the sands of time process through the hourglass, embrace compassion and wisdom, be resilient, and be supportive to our brothers, our family, and our community. February 2017 Trestleboard The 233th Regular Communication of Granite-Corinthian Lodge No. 34 will be held in the Granite-Corinthian Masonic Temple, 1611 Concord Pike in Talleyville, Delaware on February 7th at 7:30 PM. The reading of the minutes, correspondence, payment of bills, Treasurer’s report, reception of petitions, Masonic birthdays, and all other business, as may be lawfully brought before the Lodge will be transacted.

What a fantastic evening, our Grand Master’s Visitation was truly a most memorable event! Full of fun, fellowship, and fraternity in its ultimate form! MWGM’s heart-felt speech was poignant and inspiring, and was strongly supported by the other Grand Staff speakers. I was truly honored to be there and sit as your SS.
With the holidays behind us, and the cold, gray winter ahead, things might seem a little bleak for some. During this season let us keep in mind our obligation to our Brothers, to their families and to our neighbors. Do you know a Brother or widow who might need your assistance, maybe a ride to an appointment, or just a home visit to brighten their day? Perhaps there is an elderly neighbor who can no longer shovel their sidewalk or cut their grass? Let’s look for those opportunities to help others!
That is what Masons do… we go that extra mile, with a happy heart, a kind word, and a helping hand. The smallest act of kindness can make an immense difference, and what we do does matter. YOU make the difference, with each Brother living their obligation…and, working together, WE make a difference and can make this world a better place for all.

The first record of Freemasons marching in a parade wearing aprons, white gloves, and regalia was in 1738. Until the Great Depression of the 1930s, brothers would gather at the Lodge, don their regalia, and march in procession to local church for a “Masonic Sermon”. The annual event was traditionally held on one of the Saints John Days, Christmas or Easter.
The first such recorded Masonic Sermon was by Rev. Charles Brockwell in Boston’s Christ’s Church on December 27, 1749.

What is considered the color of Masonry?
Blue. To the Mason it is a symbol of universal friendship and benevolence, because, as it is the color of the vault of heaven, which embraces the earth, we are thus reminded that in the breast of every brother, these virtues should be equally extensive. It is therefore the only color, except white, which should be used in a Master’s Lodge.
