February 2017 Reach Gibtelecom negotiates cheaper roaming rates in Switzerland, Israel, Morocco and USA Since roaming rates are largely dependant on distant operator charges, Gibtelecom is constantly working with roaming partners to secure best possible deals for customers travelling abroad. The Company is proud to announce that it has recently secured lower wholesale rates in popular countries where roaming charges have traditionally been expensive, including data charges as high as £13 per MB. As a direct result of these savings, Gibtelecom has significantly reduced its roaming charges, especially for data usage. Another successful Gibraltar Chess Festival Gibtelecom was once again a leading sponsor of the Tradewise Gibraltar International Chess Festival The 15th Gibraltar Tradewise International Chess Festival, powered by Gibtelecom, was held between Monday 23 January and Thursday 2 February 2017. Once again this proved to be a hugely successful tournament with over 60 countries being represented. The tournament saw the participation of more than 500 players, including over 71 grandmasters. Gibtelecom has been involved since the very first tournament in 2003 and continues to take an active role in the festival, providing financial sponsorship and the technology that powers the website www.gibraltarchesscongress.com along with broadcasting live commentary around the world. The Masters competition, which is labelled the strongest Open chess tournament in the world, was for the third year running won by US Grandmaster (GM) Hikaru Nakamura. Securing the top prize of £23,000, this is the fourth time Mr Nakamura has won the tournament, his first win being in 2008. The top Women’s prize of £15,000 went to GM Wenjun Ju from China. Her score of seven points from ten games put her in eleventh place in the Masters tournament. Per MB Charges
