“Often times the work of a secretary is dependent upon the work of other officers, which is great because officers can then keep each other on track.”

-Brianna Xu, Secretary

“There are days when the work seems to be overwhelming, but the job is also extremely rewarding. There's that bond between a president and the members. I've become extremely attached to the position and the members.” - Sarah Chen, President

Shore l i ne C lean Up By Kelly Chan

On a bright Sunday morning, a mass of lime green and grey stood out against the horizon. It was our shoreline clean up event at the Hayward Shoreline. CV Key Clubbers met at the interpretation center, where we learned about the ocean and "interpreted nature", as our guide said.

We learned that most trash was plastic, which floats in water and takes a long time to break down. The amount of trash residing in the middle of the Pacific Ocean was called the Pacific Gyre, and is almost the size of Texas! Not only does the trash affect and kill sealife and animals, it affects currents and disturbs the beauty of the ocean.

CV Kiwis had the opportunity to be part of the biggest shoreline cleanup ever in Hayward! We worked with Boys' Scouts, Girls' Scouts, and other volunteers to beautify the area. Since there was not a lot of trash on the marsh trail, we cleaned up the street. The gloved Key Clubbers worked hard to clear the street of trash, mostly cigarette buds. Everyone was enthusiastic about picking up trash and helping the ecosystem. what we can do: -reduce, reuse, recycle, rot -get biodegradable things -use less plastic -REFUSE things that use too much plastic

CV officers Anne Lin and Kelly Chan attended Candidate Training Conference 2012 in Sacramento on January 14.

From icebreakers to food and workshops, Anne and Kelly learned all about what it's like to be a Lieutenant Governor for Key Club. There were break up sessions and a practice caucus to prepare future LTGs for their elections and roles.

Like what you hear? Maybe you can be our next LTG! We wish good luck to Anne Lin for running for Division 2 LTG, and all the other LTG candidates too!

Message from your President

What's Gucci, kiwis? It's your president! I'm sad to report that there are about 3 months remaining in this term! First off, I wanted to say thanks in advance to everybody in this club for participating, for joining and just being team players. With that, District Convention is coming up! I know that it doesn't sound very exciting on the surface, but I promise you it will be a life-changing experience. DCON is what drives me to work harder as a president and as a person. I hope that many are thinking of attending especially since the price is not very high, compared to other years! In other news, there are also elections coming up-- I have gone through some applications, they touched my heart. Thank you everybody for putting so much effort and thought into your answers. They were very sweet. I'm excited about this year's elections and I hope you are to! When time comes, please vote accordingly and not on from a biased perspective! We want to promote the most qualified leaders! Also, I want to emphasize that you may come to any officers at any time. Please don't be afraid to hit one of the officers up whether it be about events, the club, or school in general. The officers are here to serve you whenever you need. About three more months in this term, let's make it magical, kiwis!

Sarah Chen
