From the President
January has been a quiet month. The Interlakes club were supposed to have their Winterfest ride on January 24 and we were going to have the Clinton RCMP issue the road crossing permits that morning, but mother nature decided to make it a little cool. The decision was made by the Inter-lakes club that the ride should be cancelled be-cause of the extremely cold weather forecast. The new date for the ride was on Saturday February 7. Ron Thurston had arranged to have the road crossing permits done that morning. The Green Lake club cooked burgers for the Interlakes club and it was delicious! The smell of grilled onions permeated the air all around the clubhouse. I be-lieve there were 11 riders and 2 non riders from Interlakes who arrived at the clubhouse at 11:30 am. I had a great chat with a number of the Inter-lakes members while eating lunch. I would like to thank Ron & Barb for helping organize the event. A huge thank you goes to Barb, Sue McKie, Helen Monk, Ina Senechal, Rita Dixon and Rita's niece, Shelley Otto who all did a great job of cooking the lunch for everyone and cleaning up afterwards. I would also like to thank the Kendy's from A&W for their generous food donation. I be-lieve the Interlakes club raised almost $2000 for Winterfest. Great job to everyone involved. I would also like to thank Helen Monk for all the phone calls to members for the crossing permits and Valentines dance. As members pull into the parking lot, remember Len Barnes and quite often Ron Tonts who help keep the lot clear so every-one can park. Thank you again guys. Len has also decided to take on some grooming duties. Thanks Len for taking on the grooming as I know our members appreciate the trails that have been groomed. Grooming is a huge job and it's becom-ing even more difficult this past year finding enough members willing to take on the task of clearing and maintaining trails. It's time to encour-age new sledders to join the club and help in maintaining our trails. I would also like to thank Ann Read for all of her tireless newsletter work. Denis and Ann are leaving for an extended warm holiday (I'm so jealous!). In her place, Janis Hinde has generously agreed to finish up the season's newsletters! Thanks Janis! Right now, the club is going through a transition as quite a few of the older full-time resident mem-bers have moved away, so we are having prob-lems finding enough people to show up at our
functions. Having said that, we have had to cancel the Valentines Dance as not enough members will be around to attend. Right now a lot of our mem-bers are planning or have already left for warmer climates. We are hoping through the summer to have a summer function and to encourage people to join the club. We were thinking of a weekend social function that would include both inside and outside activities. If any members have activity ideas they would like to see, or if you would like to volunteer to organize an activity, please email me at [email protected]. We are in the planning process of getting a bro-chure design finalized and printed so we have in-formation available for potential members. In late Summer or early Fall we are also planning on do-ing a bulk mail out of brochures to the local 70 Mile mailing area to try and attract more members.
Safe and happy sledding! Larry Messaros

MEMORIAL RIDE
Thursday February 5 was a beautiful day for our Club's Annual Memorial Day Ride. There were thirteen riders. Frank Dixon led us to Brown Lake through most beautiful trails over hill and dale, meadows and Lakes, with a few nice rest stops which we all enjoyed. The sun was shining, (no wind) some jackets were even shed. A fire was lit for those wishing to roast wieners, others had lunches and we all enjoyed each others com-pany. John Nesbit led us in remembering the forty-three Club members (see below) that have passed on, some folks that just won't be for-gotten. The ride back was fun, even a big hill for the brave to tackle. Submitted by rider, Pat Olsoff
