A Welcome from the President

Welcome back to another exciting year of Kootenay ICE Hockey. The start of every hockey season always brings optimism and hope and the 2014-2015 campaign will be no different. Despite the turnover and cyclical nature of Major Junior Hockey our organization expects to make the playoffs every year.

Thanks in part to the quality scouting and coaching we have made the playoffs all 16 years we have been in Cranbrook, while finishing with a .500 or better record for a WHL record 15 consecutive seasons (both are the longest active streaks in the WHL).

Our organization has been very fortunate since moving to Cranbrook to enjoy an unparalleled amount of on ice success. With the core group of our players in the 19 and 20-year-old age groups, we expect them along with our new prospects to once again battle for contention in the very competitive Eastern Conference.

Our fans have come to expect a team that is hard working on the ice and ambassadors for Cranbrook and the entire East Kootenay region off the ice.

TONIGHT’S OPPONENTLAST OUTING: The Edmonton Oil Kings pay their third and final regular-season visit to Western Financial Place this evening while sitting two points back of the Kootenay ICE for the first Eastern Conference wild-card berth. Edmonton last played Monday at home, where Cole Benson’s two-goal performance helped the Oil Kings to a 5-1 victory over Prince George. Andrew Koep, Lane Bauer and Brandon Bad-dock also scored for Edmonton while Tristan Jarry stopped 30 shots in goal. Jansen Harkins had the lone Cougars tally.

LAST MEETING: Tonight marks the sixth and final meeting of the 2014-15 season between the Oil Kings and Kootenay ICE, with Kootenay holding a 3-2-0-0 record in the five prior encounters. The two sides last met January 22 in Edmonton, as the ICE rode a hat-trick from forward Tim Bozon en route to a 5-3 victory. Kootenay overcame a 3-1 second period deficit to earn the win, with Bozon’s power-play goal 1:18 into the third period standing up as the deciding goal. Tyler King and Levi Cable also scored for the ICE, while the Oil Kings got goals from Brett Pollock (2) and Ben Carroll. Wyatt Hoflin made 28 saves in goal for Kootenay. Tristan Jarry stopped 34 shots for Edmonton.
