In the Gospel, Jesus points out contrasts and opposites in the Beatitudes. Speaking to the people on a level stretch of ground after having come down from the mountain (“Sermon on the Plain”) where he can be in the midst of people, reachable and touchable, Jesus contrasts for them “now and then,” how things are experienced now compared to how things will be then. Jesus used concrete examples from the peoples’ own experience of poverty, hunger and sadness. And then Jesus made more contrasts: The rich now have money, but their money will not provide for them in the end. Those who are not physically hungry now will be hungry then. How are we then to understand Luke’s Beatitudes? The key to Luke’s beatitudes is to be found in an important clause which he adds at the end of the last beatitude, and the clause is “on account of the Son of Man.” What Luke is saying is this, those who accept these evil conditions as the price that they have to pay for following Christ, they are the blessed ones. Let us keep on loving as Jesus did. Amen.

JOIN US FOR EUCHARISTIC ADORATION AT STAR OF THE SEA ON THE 1ST THURSDAY OF EACH MONTH FROM 8:30AM UNTIL 3:00PM
What is Eucharistic Adoration? Eucharistic Adoration is adoring or honoring the Eucharistic Presence of Christ. We as Catholics believe that Christ is truly and substantially present in the Eucharist – Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity.
Outside of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, Jesus remains in the Tabernacle. For Eucharistic Adoration, Our Lord is taken from the Tabernacle and placed in a Monstrance on the Altar, so all may adore Him and spend time with Him. Eucharistic Adoration is "God and Man reaching out for each other, at the same time!"
The priest uses a humeral veil for the blessing with the Mon-strance so that his hands do not touch the Monstrance…this is symbolic that Jesus and not the priest is blessing the people.
Please prayerfully consider joining the parish Eucharistic Adoration team – contact Dick and Sue Meeker at 757-228-7775 or [email protected]
Scheduling Mass Intentions If you would like to schedule a Mass intention for a loved one, you may book 2 Masses at a time. After each Mass is said you may book another. This policy is to ensure that everyone who would like to have a Mass said has the opportunity to do so. Thank you for your cooperation. If you have any questions, please call the office at 428-8547.

Peace & Justice Pray the Rosary and pray for peace for our world! Pray for God’s peace in our homes, relationships, communities, and pray for those who are victims of hate, abuse, violence, and war.
Let us pray that our hearts are transformed by compassion to assist the poor. Let us see the faces of the Holy Family in people seeking refuge, even in the needy and homeless coming to our SOS Social Outreach. May our Parish continue to be strengthened by our blessings and share in the joy of God’s love as we are ONE FAMILY UNDER GOD. Respect Life As legislation across the country is proposed, our Catholic community needs to continue to celebrate and honor the gift of human life and be witnesses of the Good News of Jesus Christ! As a gift from God, every human life is sacred from conception to natural death. The life and dignity of every person must be respected and protected at every stage and in every condition. The right to life is the first and most fundamental principle of human rights that leads Catholics to actively work for a world of greater respect for human life and greater commitment to justice and peace.
