A Thought for today
Let your first rule of action be to trust in God as if
success depended entirely on yourself
and not on him: but use all your efforts
as if God alone did everything,
and yourself, nothing.
~ St. Ignatius Loyola
Over the past few weeks, we have prayed about, thought about, and talked about the ministries supported by Our Catholic Appeal. Now is the time for all of us to share a portion of our treasure so these ministries can continue.
If you received your 2020 Our Catholic Appeal packet in the mail and made your pledge, thank you. If you have not yet made your pledge, please consider doing so today. By supporting the ministries of our diocese, every parish, including our own, is better equipped to carry out the work of Christ.
Our 2020 parish goal is $293,838. Once we reach our goal, the majority of the additional funds will be returned to our parish to support our own special needs.
Thank you for your prayerful consideration and generous response.
Kickoff is this weekend!

Sirach 15:15-20 1 Corinthians 2:6-10 Matthew 5:20-22,
33-34, 37
Gospel Jesus said to his disciples: “I tell you,
unless your righteousness surpasses that of
the scribes and Pharisees, you will not
enter the kingdom of heaven.
“You have heard that it was said to your
ancestors, You shall not kill; and whoever
kills will be liable to judgment. But I say to
you, whoever is angry with his brother will
be liable to judgment.
“You have heard that it was said, You shall
not commit adultery. But I say to you,
everyone who looks at a woman with lust
has already committed adultery with her in
his heart.
“Again you have heard that it was said to
your ancestors, Do not take a false oath,
but make good to the Lord all that you
vow. But I say to you, do not swear at all.

Let your ‘Yes’ mean ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No’
mean ‘No.’ Anything more is from the
evil one.”
In Today’s Gospel, Jesus shows how
following him makes a difference in the
choices made by Jesus’ disciples. If we are
truly disciples Jesus must make a difference
in our daily choices. Christ is harsh on the
scribes and Pharisees and sets a standard
much higher for His disciples. What do
you think about this? We must remember
to always act in a righteous way and not
“Do what I say and not what I do.”
1. Have you considered that sin can be in
our minds/hearts without acting upon
the sin? If we think it, are we sinning?
2. How many of you still “cross your
fingers behind your backs” when you
speak?
3. Do you think Jesus is telling us to seek
a healthy, dependable sense of right and
wrong?
4. “How deep is my honesty? How giving
is my charity? How authentic is my
worship?” These are all questions for
the followers of Christ.
Your past commitment to Our Catholic Appeal allowed St. Mark to not only reach, but exceed our goals for the 2019 Campaign. Our participation rate was 79% —the best in the Diocese of Orlando.
A majority of the additional funds are returned back to our parish which targets needs for special projects.
Next weekend the 2020 Our Catholic Appeal campaign kicks-off. I pray that the Holy Spirit guides you as you prayerfully consider your donation during the new year. Thank you for your commitment to St. Mark and the Diocese of Orlando.

During this first amazing month of life, the baby grows to 10,000 times his size at conception. He is totally dependent upon his mother. Between mother and child lies the vital organ called the placenta. Here, vessels from mother and baby intertwine without joining, highlighting this newly formed relationship - mutual, nourishing and deeply connected. By the third week, the baby’s tiny heart begins to beat.
Remember to pray for
your adopted baby.
