 February 2017  Dear McKinley Families:  As a reminder, we do not have school on Monday, February 20th in observance of Presidents’ Day.  Enjoy your time off with family & friends.  School will resume Tuesday, February 21st.    

Report cards are going home Friday, February 10th.   If you have any questions or would  like to know more about your son’s/daughter’s progress, please see your child’s teacher.  Home/school communication is important for the success of each child.  Special thanks to Liz (front office), Lily (community liaison), PTA and all of our parent volunteers for helping with our TK & 

K Round Up.  I appreciate everyone working together to organize and facilitate this special event for our incoming TK & K 

families.  Thank you for donating refreshments, decorating the auditorium, making packets and leading the school tours.  

Thank you for going the extra mile for our school community!  I appreciate all your help and support!  This is what makes 

McKinley such a special place! 

Hats off to our FABULOUS student council for organizing sports day and matching day!  Students had fun coming to school in their unique and special ways!  I was hoping to get your help with after school pick up.  I appreciate those who come early and wait patiently in line as students are dismissed.  As you are all aware, the 1st car lane is the pick‐ up lane.  However, the 2nd lane is a drive‐thru lane only.  We’ve had many parents using the 2nd lane for pick up.  This causes a huge safety risk for children who have to cross through traffic.  I realize you may be late for an appointment, in a hurry or have crying babies in the car with you and waiting in line can be frustrating.  But for the safety of the children, please do not use the 2nd car lane for pick up.   I appreciate your help with this.  Don’t forget to show your school spirit each day by wearing your McKinley shirt or blue/gold.  Happy Valentine’s Day!  Sincerely,

MCKINLEY STEM FAIR PARENT INFORMATION MEETING

 McKinley’s STEM Fair Grades TK‐1, 2‐3, 4‐5 Monday, March 27th 6PM Auditorium 

If you'd like more information on how your child

can participate, we're offering parent information

meetings. See dates/times below/location below:  

February 22nd 3:15 or 6 PM ‐ auditorium Encore on February 23rd 8:45 AM – parent room 

 

These  informational  parent meetings will  review  STEM  Fair  guidelines  and  suggestions  for 

supporting your student. Informational meetings are NOT mandatory but highly recommended. 

Parents will receive a participation packet and agreement at the informational meetings (receipt 

of agreement by STEM Fair coordinator is required from all participants). Families who do not 

attend informational meetings may pick up participation packets from the main office starting 

February 27th.  IF YOUR CHILD PARTICIPATED IN STEM FAIR LAST YEAR AND IS PARTICIPATING 

AGAIN THIS YEAR, PARENTS DO NOT NEED TO ATTEND THE INFORMATIONAL MEETING PLEASE

Hey Kids! Here’s how you can help! Before Jog-a-thon:

1) Get Sponsors! Ask friends and family to support your school by pledging money for each lap you run, or by pledging a flat rate for your participation.

2) Get Healthy! Eat right, get good sleep, and exercise to build up your strength.

The day of Jog-a-thon:

1) Get Ready! Eat a healthy breakfast, wear good running clothes and shoes, wear your team color and bring a container of water.

2) Get Moving! When it's your classes turn, do your best! Run, jog or walk all the laps you can in 30 minutes.

After Jog-a-thon:

1) Collect Pledges! Let everyone know how many laps you did and collect pledges. Checks should be made payable to McKinley PTA. Remember to turn them in by March 10th.

2) Say Thanks! Always remember to thank the people who support you!
