President’s WelcomeJames J. York, MDPresident, Maryland Orthopaedic Association

Dear Colleague,

It has been an honor to serve as President of our MarylandOrthopaedic Association. We at MOA have focused on severalareas of service to our members. First is continuing medicaleducation. We have continued to provide web based clinical mate-rial, and an Annual Meeting which balances clinical updates, practice management material, cutting edge research and net-

working with our colleagues around the state. Our other critical area of activity isinteraction with government. Advocacy at the legislature and with the stateexecutive branch continues to be a critical mission for our State Society.

Besides the legislature, the Department of Health and the Medical LicensingBoard have had a profound impact on our ability to practice Orthopaedic Surgery. To that end we retain an excellent, experienced lobbyist to represent us and ourissues to each of the branches of our state government. Just as important as theMOA lobbyist, are the relationships that our Board Members and many of ourcolleagues have with our state legislators.

Sometimes I hear, “How can I participate in Orthopaedic Advocacy when I am upto my eyeballs in work?” If you cannot come to Annapolis during the legislativesession or meet with your delegates or state senator, you CAN participate in ourMOA Political Action Committee (PAC). The PAC is a valuable communicationtool and provides Maryland Orthopaedists access to legislators. Every electedofficial remembers those who contribute to reelection funds.

PAC contribution forms are as close as your computer or smartphone:www.mdortho.org. PAC forms are available at the Annual Meeting RegistrationBooth. Join our PAC now!

Year over year, we strive to make our Annual Meeting relevant to you with abalance of practical clinical updates, a peek at the future of Orthopaedics withcutting edge research papers, practice management symposia and updates / re-ports on our advocacy efforts. I would like to thank our program committee led byDr. Joshua Abzug for constructing a superb 2018 Annual Meeting.

The Annual Meeting welcomes you at no cost if you are an MOA member.

I am sure that you will find our 2018 meeting valuable and relevant. I always lookforward to catching up with our colleagues. We appreciate your involvement, participation, and membership in the Maryland Orthopaedic Association.

See you at the meeting!

Sincerely,
