Update from the Haiti MinistrySince its establishment in 2017, the St. Alphonsus
Scholarship Program has leveraged generous support from an
anonymous donor and the parishioners of St. Alphonsus
Liguori as it facilitates the college education of several
students from St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Croix
Fer, Haiti.
Eligible students are vetted by the Haiti Committee at
St. Alphonsus, and if successful, are supported on a semester-
to-semester basis by scholarship funds in the amount of full-
time tuition and fees while attending a qualified university in
the capital city of Port-au-Prince. Continued scholarship
support is dependent on the maintenance of good grades in
the chosen field of study, as well as community service in
and around Croix Fer during the summer and/or other
academic breaks. We have one new and two continuing
scholarship recipients for the spring semester 2020.
Ortega Claverns and Maritza André are our continuing
students. Ortega has been working toward a degree in
Education at the
University Quisqueya
since January 2018.
Maritza has been pursuing
a degree in Nursing at the
University of Notre Dame
of Haiti since September
2018. Our newest
scholarship recipient is
Milourie Badin. Milourie
will also attend the
University of Quisqueya,
and has been accepted into
the medical school there
with hopes of becoming a
doctor.
The Haiti Ministry at St. Alphonsus would like to thank you
for your continued support and prayers for the success of
these fine students.
Scholarship Recipient Maritza André

Of all the facets of the Uniting in Heart
2030 Pastoral Plan, there is one that each
of us is called to gather around, to be
engaged in by sharing our God given
gifts to the fullest. That facet is
evangelization, and if you revisit the 3
Pillars of Mission, Community and
Witness you will find evangelization under the Mission
Pillar.
At the core of the Uniting in Heart 2030 Pastoral Plan is the
need for evangelization because it is through this that our
parishes will grow as faith communities, that our schools will
instill a love for our faith in our children, that we will
experience an increase in vocations and all of us will
encounter a deeper relationship with our Savior.
However, the work of evangelization is not a singular action
of one person. Rather, it is the collective of clergy, religious
and laity laboring in harmony to bring the Gospel to all
people. It means each and every one of us must bring our
unique gifts and talents together to enable the Church to carry
out the Word of God.
When we open our hearts to the ministry of evangelization
and listen intently for the guidance of the Holy Spirit, then
some amazing things could happen in 2020 for our diocese.
We will begin to touch the lives of our brothers and sisters
who have fallen away from the Church. We will discover the
souls that are in the margins of our communities who hunger
for the Gospel and our love. And, for those who don’t yet
have that hunger, we will lead them to an encounter with
Jesus Christ.
Sacramental Care Pastoral Care of the Sick may be arranged by contacting the
office for an individual celebration of the sacraments for
someone seriously ill, having major surgery or in the hospital.
The Holy Eucharist is taken by Extraordinary Ministers of
Holy Communion to the homebound and those in nursing
homes. Contact the parish office if you or someone you know
would like to receive Holy Communion: 317.873.2885.
Parish Weekly Calendar of Events Please Keep in Your Prayers Names of the sick will remain on the list for 8 weeks. At that time, you may call the office to resubmit a request.

Fr. Dennis O’Keeffe, Judith Kline-Stratton, Len Pata, Shea
