Managers Message —by Anthony Chelena

In late December, Gene Hoots worked his last day at

the Club after nearly 14 years of service. I will miss

seeing him daily at the Club, but I know we’ll still see

him around town.

In the coming months I will be searching to hire a

replacement Clubhouse Manager and many candidates

have applied for the position. Meanwhile, we’ll be leaning on the experience

and talent of Tammy Hoxit

during the daytime, for meetings

and for banquets, and Michael

Tribbey in the dining rooms

in the evenings. Tammy and

Michael have been attending

training workshops for several

months in anticipation of this

temporary assignment until a

new Clubhouse Manager is hired. They have done a great job growing to

be ready. Harry Barnjum is assisting them in certain functions and I am

keeping up with things going on or coming up in the next several months.

Do you prefer to pay your dues every month, once a quarter, or once a year?

If you are thinking about changing your dues billing arrangement, now is

a good time to do it. Let us know before March 20 if you elect to go from

annual to quarterly or monthly. Also, have you considered direct debit? Our

office can give you the details.

President’s Message —by Chris Burns

Your Primary Entertainment DestinationThat’s what country clubs have

strived to be for over 100 years.

In an age when golf and tennis

are continually challenged to

attract new folks and our kids

are ever entertained by electronic means (when

they aren’t being carted from one sporting event to

another), that goal is harder than ever to achieve.

Nonetheless, your Club leadership continues to seek

and offer a varied menu of events each month with

that goal in mind. Need proof? Just take a look

at the offerings we have for February: The Father

Daughter Dinner, Speed Socializing for Seniors, a

Ward Room jam session, and an introduction to golf

clinic for ladies. Whether you are 8, 80 or anywhere

in between, even a short, cold month like February

has Club events in which to socialize, have fun and

learn something new. Throughout the coming

months, warm or cold, we’ll continue to look for new

ways to meet that goal and provide opportunities for

you to enjoy your club. And as you see me around,

don’t hesitate to give me your ideas as well!

Thursday Feb. 125:30 PMDads and Granddads, this is your chance to bring your favorite lady to the Club for a special meal. We will offer kid-friendly meals for our younger Members, as well as an upscale menu for our Members who don’t love chicken tenders! Don’t forget to dust off your dancing shoes; we will have music and dancing available. Make your reservations today with Emily 692-2261.

Golf Tips —by Jay King

As our temperatures

are cooling, it’s

especially important

to warm up by

stretching before you

play and to also stretch after your round.

If you normally do not play as much

during the winter season you should

still keep up your stretching during

this time to be ready for the summer

months. Miguel Angel Jimenez is known

for his unique pre-round stretching

and exercises. Though his routine may

look awkward, it is especially important

to his game and health now that he

is 51 years old. Remember a person

that loses flexibility due to age or poor

conditioning will be unable to complete

the backswing and lose a great deal of

potential clubhead speed.

A nice way to get warmed up before

you leave the house is to get on the floor

and then get back up. Think about the

last time you got down on the floor.

Children are always on the floor, and the

process of just sitting on the floor and

standing up and back down a few times

may be all that you need to get the blood

flowing and build strength. You may

need to have a chair nearby to hold onto

and someone assisting you to complete

this task the first few times. If you are

unable to do this you may jog or run in

place for a few minutes.

Stretches:

• Grabbothendsofagolfclubabove

your heard (arms straight) and drop

into the squat position. Hold for 5

seconds and repeat a few times.

• Holdtheclubaboveyourheadand

bend from your hips (keeping legs

straight) as you reach towards your

toes.

• Holdtheclubbehindyourhead

(across your shoulders) and take your

golf posture. Now slowly rotate your

upper body like you would in your golf

swing as you keep your hips stationery.

• Placeonelegbehindtheother,

bending the front leg as you straighten

back leg (calf stretch).

• Grabyourhandsbehindyourback,

push out your chest (shoulder and

chest stretch).

Have fun with your stretching routine,

like Jimenez, and have a more flexible

golf season this year.

Golf News—by Ben Balentine

With February already

here we start to get excited

about the upcoming

golf season. One of the

first things to do in that

respect is assess your golf equipment, i.e.

the status of your grips and how your set

compares to the latest technology in men’s

and women’s golf equipment.

Golf Events that appeared in last month’s

the golf staff hope that you find it satisfactory

and that you will begin planning to participate

important to review the entry rules very

carefully. Entry forms must be returned BY

Grounds —by Craig DeJong

Our staff continues to push

through another cold winter. So

far, the weather has been decent

for making progress on numerous

projects. Trees have been the

name of the game. Tree removal

at the lower putting green, and

behind the 15th green is complete.

The amount of sunshine now reaching these greens,

especially in the morning, is outstanding. In addition

to keeping chainsaws sharpened, we have been

refurbishing golf course accessories, painting in the

Clubhouse, cleaning landscaping beds, and fine tuning

the efficiency of our irrigation system. As always, it’s

great to hear from you. [email protected]

If you have not signed up for the Valentine Luncheon on Friday, February 13, it’s

not too late. The social half hour begins at 11:30 with a buffet lunch at 12:00.

Sign up on the bulletin board or online. I am told there are many benefits that

will come your way if you invite your sweetheart to this very fine SMGA event.

You may even be excused for wandering off on most Monday mornings during

the summer. We always have a good turnout for this luncheon, so sign up early.

Have you heard

the GREAT news

about the real estate

boom in Henderson

real estate updates

from several

brokerage firms in the region, and they

all report the same thing: homes are

selling quickly and more people are

moving in. What does this have to do

with membership in HCC? Everything,

of course! Do you have a new neighbor

or two, is there a new couple in your

Sunday School class, does your child

have a new family at their school? These

C’mon Single Seniors. It’s time to get with the times. Young people have been speed dating for over a decade and it’s a fun way to spend an evening talking with and making new friends. But we aren’t going to call it speed dating…we like speed socializing better. What will happen? Arrive at 5:30 and have a cocktail and at 5:45 we’ll get started. We’ll arrange seating for socializing and 5 minutes later we’ll rearrange the seating arrangements for the next round. Repeat every five minutes until everyone has socialized. During each 5 minute session you will talk about whatever you want, but we’ll provide some suggested topics and a couple of off limit topics. After everyone has met, we’ll bring in some light hors d’ oeuvres and you can linger as long as you wish. Must be single and on social security. Reservations required with a maximum of 10 men and 10 women. Call Emily at 692-2261.
