It was not my intention to have the two year term of my volunteer position coincide with the

Presidential elections but it did. While my inauguration did not have the hoopla my kids

would have liked, at least I couldn’t flub up the swearing in! With that said, I have decided to

stay on for at least one more year with the hopes that this will be a slightly calmer yet

equally as productive year!

We are very much looking forward to some exciting changes and events for 2009. Each year

we get great ideas from GCNA members about ways to improve our surroundings and make

the life we lead here healthier, safer and more rewarding. Please keep the suggestions com-

ing!

Many thanks to all the volunteers, silent and not so silent, who help keep our neighborhood

so great! Some of special note are:

Loretta Widmann - Maintenance

Communicator extraordinaire, flower bed keeper-upper, lighting planner, fence repair liai-

son….these are just a few of the things that Loretta keeps up with…not to mention her 5 kids

and running Pampered Home Pro! It’s a huge job and we are forever indebted to her for her

consistently hard work.

Debbie Holt - Newsletter

Debbie has taken on the newsletter with full force, making great changes and adding content

that will make it a real “news” letter. She added a section for “free” local business ads as well

as some GCNA recipes and homeowner stories.

Jennifer Pereira and Glory Pettit - Social

At times, social is a full time job…with so much forward planning to do…and Jennifer and

Glory do it so well. We have new events coming up so keep your eyes peeled for those, as I’m

sure they will be great!

We are so honored to have these people on the board keeping the GCNA the best place to live

in the metroplex! On a sad note, Beth Haddad will be stepping down from the board

this month. She has been a trusted secretary and friend and we all will miss her

smile. We wish you the best of luck with your studies, Beth. We know we’ll see you around…

involved in one thing or another!

Finances have no doubt been on all of our minds lately. When you are looking at the volun-

teer and non-profit crowd, there is even more vulnerability of people cutting back. The board

and I are doing all we can to maintain our record number of memberships, while keeping peo-

ple involved and proud to call the GCNA home. Please do what ever you can to make a finan-

cial and/or service commitment to the GCNA to keep the momentum from last year alive!

All the best to you for 2009…I hope to see you around.

WANTED Now that Beth is back in school, we

Glade Crossing consists of over 900 homes occupied not only by humans but pets of various types.

Many dogs of GCNA spend time in back yards or taking a leashed walk around the perimeter every

day. If you or your dog are looking for a change there are three local dog parks which may be exactly

what you need. These parks also serve as a place for potential dog owners to see and learn about

various breeds. All of the parks below offer a safe fenced in area for your dog to run, play and meet

new friends.

Villages of Bear Creek Dog Park

The Villages of Bear Creek park consists of three-acres of grass covered land that is divided into two

sections. One section is for large dogs over 40 pounds and the other is for small dogs less than 40

pounds. Each section provides shaded areas, wash stations, and drinking fountains for both humans

and dogs. Additionally if you want to take your dog on a leashed walk, paved walking trails surround

the area.

The dog park is open six days a week during daylight hours and closed every Thursday for mainte-

nance.

Villages of Bear Creek Park is located off Highway 360 south. Take the Mid Cities exit and proceed

approximately one half mile. Make a left onto Bear Creek Parkway, drive one half mile and the park

will be on the right side.

Wave Car and Dog Wash

Are both your car and dog overdue for a bath? Check out the Wave Car and Dog wash located at

2201 Ira E Woods Ave in Grapevine. In addition to the self service car wash you can watch your dog

play in the grass covered dog park. After a good run in the grass and climb around the agility items,

you can give your dog bath at one of the convenient wash stations.

BooBoo’s Buddies Southlake Dog Park

BooBoo’s buddies is a large mulch and grass covered dog park. The park is divided into two areas,

one for large and the other for small dogs. The park offers fresh water and benches for owners to sit

and relax. Walking trails surround the dog park area for leashed walks.

BooBoo’s buddies park is located at 3500 N. White Chapel Road, Southlake in the back of Bob Jones

Park.

Crepes!

2 large eggs

3/4 cup milk

1/2 cup water

1 cup flour

3 tablespoons melted butter

Butter, for coating the pan

In a blender, combine all of the ingredients and pulse for 10

seconds. Place the crepe batter in the refrigerator for 1

hour. This allows the bubbles to subside so the crepes will

be less likely to tear during cooking. The batter will keep

for up to 48 hours.

Heat a small non-stick pan. Add butter to coat. Pour 1

ounce of batter into the center of the pan and swirl to

spread evenly. Cook for 30 seconds and flip. Cook for an-

other 10 seconds and remove to the cutting board. Lay them

out flat so they can cool. Continue until all batter is gone.

After they have cooled you can stack them and store in seal-

able plastic bags in the refrigerator for several days or in

the freezer for up to two months. When using frozen crepes,

thaw on a rack before gently peeling apart.

*Savory Variation Add 1/4 teaspoon salt and 1/4 cup

chopped fresh herbs, spinach or sun-dried tomatoes to the

egg mixture.

*Sweet Variation Add 21/2 tablespoons sugar, 1 teaspoon

vanilla extract and 2 tablespoons of your favorite liqueur to

the egg mixture.

Mexican Corn Dip

3 8 oz. cans Mexican Corn, drained and rinsed 1 4 oz. can Chopped Green Chiles 2 Green Onions chopped ½ cup Mayonnaise ½ cup Sour Cream 2 cups Sharp Cheddar Cheese grated Salt and Pepper to taste. Mix all ingredients in together and serve with tortilla chips. Can be chilled 24 hours before serving. Vicki Godding-Boos

Peach French Toast

1 c. brown sugar

½ c. butter

2 T. water

1 (29 oz.) can and 1 (14 oz.) can sliced

peaches (drained well, reserving syrup)

1 loaf French bread, cut into cubes

6 eggs

1 ½ c. milk

1 tsp. vanilla extract

½ tsp. cinnamon + some for sprinkling

1/8 tsp. nutmeg

In a saucepan combine sugar and butter

and heat over medium-low heat until mix-

ture bubbles. Add water and continue

cooking until sauce becomes thick and

foamy. Pour into 9”x13” baking pan. I

found that the canned sliced peaches

were still a bit thick. So, I sliced

them in half again to increase coverage

across the pan too. Place well-drained

peach slices on the cooled caramel

sauce. Lightly sprinkle with cinnamon.

Beat eggs well. Add milk, vanilla, cin-

namon and nutmeg and beat well. Toss

liquid mixture with bread cubes and pour

into pan over peaches. Cover and re-

frigerate overnight. Bake in 350 degree

oven for 40 minutes, loosely covering

with foil the last 10 minutes. Heat the

reserved peach syrup and pour over

toast. Serves 12 to 14.
