DESCRIPTION This seventh annual conference is intended as a practical overview for pathologists who encounter gastrointestinal specimens in daily practice. Interpretation of mucosal biopsies of the upper GI tract will be addressed, as well as recent advances in pancreatic pathology. Case presentations will be featured to emphasize presented concepts. Participants should come away with a better understanding of interpretation of mucosal biopsies, liver biopsies, pancreatic/biliary disorders, and the application of modern techniques to gastrointestinal disorders. OBJECTIVES After attending this activity, the participant should be able to: 1. Discuss concepts regarding drug-induced GI injury 2. Identify common pitfalls in the evaluation of esophageal biopsies 3. Recognize critical issues involved in colon cancer staging 4. Review the spectrum of mucinous tumors of the appendix, with emphasis on tumors involving peritoneum and ovary lesions encountered in the practice of pathology 5. Define common pitfalls in the evaluation of neoplastic and non- neoplastic liver diseases 6. Present a logical approach towards the diagnosis of key pancreatobiliary lesions 7. Review practical diagnostic “tips” in a variety of gastrointestional tract lesions, including pediatric biopsy specimens ACCREDITATION STATEMENT The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. INTERACTIVE SLIDE SESSIONS Featured this year, due to the course location being on the campus of the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, we will offer interactive slide sessions in our laboratories. All registrants will attend all three concurrent panels (see Saturday afternoon program). You will be placed in a small group on-site.
