In the chassis shop, the patented Duraframe® all-steel subfloor system is constructedon precision assembly jigs. Fabricated from carefully formed steel components, the

Duraframe® is welded at every joint to provide unyielding strength over the longhaul. The completed Duraframe® substructure is carefully lowered onto themotorhome chassis then the two are welded together to form a permanent,

super-strong structure. Next, a generous coat of rust-inhibiting paint is applied tothe entire assembly before it enters the main assembly line.

COLD HARD STEEL

All of the structural components of the motorhome—subfloor structure, sidewalls,floors, bulkhead and the arched roof—are fabricated from steel. Competitors

may use aluminum, wood or other materials to save costs, but none are as strongas cold hard steel.

ASSEMBLY LINE

Once it arrives on the assembly linefrom the chassis shop, the building of

the coach “house” begins. The floor islaid, cabinets set into place, and all

IT’S STARTING TO LOOK LIKE A MOTORHOMEBy the time the sidewall is set into place on a National RV motorhome, many man-

CNC PRECISION

National RV has been at the forefront of implementing new technologies in RVmanufacturing. An excellent example is the CNC router. This advanced machine

uses a computer-numerically-controlled (CNC) router to precisely cut windows andother openings in the sidewalls. Routed-out pieces aren’t wasted—they’re furthershaped into insulated, sound-deadening panels for our heated basement storage

compartments.

equipment. Controls for thepowerful dual 13,500 BTU airconditioners and dual ducted 20,000BTU furnaces are convenientlylocated at the central monitorpanel. A powered roof vent withconvenient wall mountedthermostat keeps the living area

properly ventilated.

CAP PLACEMENTFront and rear caps are fully loaded with grills, light fixtures and other componentsbefore being delivered to the assembly line. Skillful coordination of manufacturing

processes are required to ensure a steady flow of components to the line fromassembly areas throughout the plant. Once the caps are in place, the motorhome

“shell” is complete—with the motorhome surrounded in brilliant, protective,stylishly molded fiberglass. Further up the line, windows and doors are installed

as finish work continues on the coach interior and exterior.

WHITER WHITES

The gleaming high gloss gelcoat of thefiberglass components will become the

beautiful exterior finish of themotorhome. Extra care is taken in the

fiberglass finishing shop to buff eachcomponent to a mirror finish before

sending it to the assembly line.

Competitors’ thininterior wall surfaces “give” when youpush them, revealing theirweakness beneath thesurface, with reinforcementsbuilt in only where necessaryto attach cabinets. Our interiorwall surfaces are ¼" thick and rigidthroughout!

HIGH GLOSS GELCOAT EXTERIORExterior sidewall surface is made of a highgloss fiberglass gelcoat that is molded intoa luan backing then vacuum laminated tothe sidewall structure. The result isexcellent resistance to delamination andlong-lasting great looks.

A BETTER WAY TO MOUNT A SIDEWALLThe National RV sidewall is placed on topof the steel floor framework. Somemanufacturers use screws to fasten thesidewall horizontally to the edge of thefloor. This places the fastening screwsunder an enormous amount of shear force,and the sidewall—and everything aboveit, such as the roof—is literally being heldup by a few small screws! With theNational RV method, the weight of thesidewall rests on the steel framework ofthe floor. Which would you prefer?

most of the coach’s manufactured components are installed—name brandappliances, comfortable furnishings, interior lighting and fixtures. Near the end of

the line, special UV-resistant graphics are applied and a nearly complete newmotorhome emerges.

NEWAY AIR SUSPENSION

Tropi-Cal’s full air ridesuspension features theNeway AS-120 front and ADLrear suspension systems.

Typical air bag suspensions,having no mechanical deviceto control roll, must usestiffer air springs to combatroll forces. By contrast, theADL is designed to absorb rollforces through its TransverseBeam, allowing for softer,ride-optimized air springs.

The ADL’s upper torquelink helps maintain a nearconstant pinion anglethrough full axle articulationand torque loads. Thisfeature minimizes unwanteddriveline vibration whilehelping to increase U-jointand pinion bearing life,which is especially importantfor short drivelines found inrear engine diesel motorhomes.
