I. Introduction

As students in the University of San Carlos, we are all familiar and aware of the

necessary facilities that are needed to be attained in order to lessen the hassle that we encounter

from our day to day routine in school.

In relation to the feasibility study being conducted on the installation of lockers in one of

the buildings inside the campus, this study aims to allow students to take advantage of the

services that the USC baggage counter offers. We all have noticed that there are limited number

of lockers installed in school, in fact only few chosen areas or buildings are mounted with

lockers. The problem with this is that only a few numbers of students as well are accommodated

by this facility. Because of this, the group has decided to introduce this feasibility study on the

setting up of baggage counters in school. This is to provide the students with comfort and

assured ease. This facility can maximize the students’ learning process. It is assigned to students

as a way for them to store supplies while they are attending the school. The supplies could range

from books, to papers, book bags, and jackets just to name a few items.

USC baggage counters allow students to have a level of convenience in the school. By

having these the students do not need to carry their jackets and school supplies to every class

during the day. Instead the students may leave the majority of their books and folders in the

baggage counter and just access them between classes or as needed. Through this facility, there

is no need for students to register during the start of the semester and there will be no more

hassle for them to be in a rush to reserve first since there will be unlimited slots available.

II. Methodology

The problem of having a limited number of lockers installed in school has been encountered

by students from their day to day routine. It brought hassle to students. To solve this problem, a

good resolution is to provide USC baggage counters.

To achieve this goal, a survey will be conducted to determine if the students need or agree to

implement the services of the USC baggage counters. The students from USC will be the

respondents. There will be 58 respondents; they will be given questionnaires individually. The

results of the survey are tallied and computed to create a reliable conclusion and considerable

recommendation.

III. Criteria

Security

There are cases that students lose their belongings inside the school; to avoid this, we

make sure to provide the best security and assurance that their things will be safe and secured.

We aim to give out a reasonable price for the fee that the students will be paying from the

service that they availed. If one will avail from this service, they will pay Php 10.00. This will be

a day to day basis.

Availability

We aim to give out the maximization of the services that we offer. The goal is to give our

best services from Monday to Saturday.

We will place baggage counters in every building inside the school. This is to assure ease

and comfort for everyone.

IV. Nature of Business

Baggage counters are the alternative solution to the students who weren’t able to have

lockers provided by the university. By this, we proposed Baggage Counters similar to what we

see in shopping malls. In which students will only pay once they decided to utilize the said

service.

Baggage counters will be located in every floor of the school buildings. It costs P10.00 per

day with unlimited number of items stored and with a P50.00 penalty in case they were not able

to claim their belongings on the same day.

Students definitely need baggage counter so they have a place to keep their belongings, like

storing books, clothing and other possessions. And they definitely don’t want to have huge bags

and carry all their stuffs around the campus all day. We are responsible for the contents that are

in the baggage counters, as well as taking care of them to ensure the privacy and safety of things

stored in the baggage counters.

There are many advantages of having a baggage counters in school. Aside from the security

for student’s possessions, it reduces the strain on student’s backs and shoulders by proving a

place to store heavy books and equipments. It also removes the destructions because baggage

counters can be used to force students to leave distracting iPods, laptops and other electronic

devices out of the classroom provided with a secure locks.

Baggage Counters will last for years, meaning it will serve students for generations to come.

And students should invest to it because it’s worth it.

V. Market Environment

A. Target Market

The main target market for the USC Baggage Counters include all students attending the

school, teachers, staffs and transient visitors. Generally, this service is open for all individuals but

its focus certainly leads to the students.

These individuals would choose to deposit their belongings in the baggage counters for the

fact that there are so many subjects in one day and so many things to carry around. Since so

many students don't want to carry around books, they just don't bring them at school and that

poses a learning problem.

Schools should have these baggage counters for the books andother belongings that need to

be safe guarded from less than honest people. It is a good place to put your belongings or

whatever you store in there.

The USC baggage counters plan to service the end users with safety, privacy and

organization.

Page 7: Feasibility Study on Baggage Counters

Safety

If students carried wet umbrellas and coats to different classes, it could create water trails

all over the school, which could result in people slipping and getting injured. Baggage

counters are designed as a place where coats and umbrellas can dry so that no one gets

injured.

Privacy

These storage counters allow students to have some form of privacy in which all of their

belongings would be kept private from others and they can be guaranteed with 100%

safety.

Organization

Without the baggage counter, all of the items that students typically keep in there would

be all over the school. Items would not only be all over and disorganized, but more items

would get lost or misplaced.

These counters are made for everyone to keep all of their belongings intact in one place. It

lessens the trouble to carry heavy loads all over the campus. This service is made at a reasonable

price. Since this is a school facility, students are expected to have just enough money for the day.

Page 8: Feasibility Study on Baggage Counters

B. Competition

Due to the very limited school lockers offered in this university, only few students were

able to avail their services. And to answer this big demand of the student we offer this baggage

counters. It is very advantage in our part since we will be building baggage counters in every

floor of the school buildings, we guarantee the easy access and high quality compare to the

locker business outside the campus. This is to attract our target number of students to avail our

products. We will make sure that it is economical to meet our client’s satisfaction and progress.

C. Marketing and Sale Strategy

The market strategy for the service that we proposed is direct selling. In where they pay

first before they get the service ought for the payment they gave. Since payments are fixed, same

as the service to be provided. The payment is good for one day only. If there valuables will fail

to be claimed, the owner must pay for specific payment as fine.

The daily use of the service of the baggage counter will also have daily revenue.

Expected that in a daily basis, 50-60% of the available shelves will be rented by the target

customers, who are the students of the university who also play the role as the majority number

of the population of the location where the lockers will be placed.

Page 9: Feasibility Study on Baggage Counters

Since the service will be paid only if the customers wants to deposit there valuables, it

will be a benefit to the customer since they will only pay if they want to have the service and

there are no contracts attached but they should also adhere to the terms and conditions of the

service to prevent miscommunications.

D. Technology

For security of the student’s belongings, we are going to adapt to the new technology by

putting camera on the baggage counters which we have proposed. It’s a device that could be very

useful for security purposes and for monitoring. It is useful in a way that when problems come,

the personnel would just simply check the camera records to solve the said tribulation. Using

cameras gives you no hassle and it’s not time consuming during solving problems.

E. Economic and Social Factors

Factors of baggage counters with social lifestyle may consider as interaction for most

of the students as well as communication because most of the students may by standard in their in

their baggage counters on their vacant time; considering the fact that it will help all the students

for higher and comfortable education. For economic factors of baggage counter, one of the most

important is the resources because it is one of main part of the business. The main advantage of

our business is that it is highly secure, very affordable etc. while one of the disadvantage of the

business is that if a client may forgot his/her padlock password, It may cause problems and

penalties which according to the business rules, a client must pay extra nor penalty charge.

Page 10: Feasibility Study on Baggage Counters

VI. Production/Operating Requirements

In order to achieve the said proposal, all it requires is a location where we could set up

our booth and a person who will be taking charge of the things that the costumers will be

handing over. This proposal doesn’t require much budget in just setting it up. It is very easy and

simple. The booth will be surrounded with shelves where the things will be placed safely. Each

counter can accommodate 50 individuals at most. The location for the counters will be installed

at every floor in the Bunzel building. The space that the counter will occupy will be leased from

the school.

In handling over an item in the baggage counter, the customer must receive a number

card which will serve as a key in claiming their belongings by the end of the day and by filling

up a log book containing the customer’s name, contact number and the type of item being

handed over. If a baggage will not be claimed on the same day that the owners handed it over,

they will be charged with a corresponding amount. In claiming their belongings, they must first

fill up the claimed stab with their signatures and show the number card that they received upon

checking in before they could take their items back. If they accidentally misplaced the number

card, there will be a charge for missing it and in order to get back their items, they will have to

follow several instructions on how to retrieve their belongings. It is for security purposes.
