The “Fear of the Lord”• Receives the Lord’s direction and clarity

on the best way to live (Ps 25:12-14)

• Assures God’s goodness (Ps 31:19)

• Secures God’s attention (Ps 33:18)

• Supplies God’s continual provision (Ps 34:9)

• Promises the Lord’s protection and deliverance (Ps 34:7; 115:11; Prov 14:26)

• Preserves life and many good days across our lives (Ps 34:12; Prov 10:27)

• Receives God’s love and compassion to you and your descendants (Ps 103:11, 13, 17)

• Attracts blessing (Ps 112:1; 115:13; 128:1)

• Enjoys the Lord’s delight (Ps 147:11)

• Provides wisdom & understanding (Prov 9:10-11)

• Brings peace of mind and contentment (Prov 15:16; 16:6; 19:23)

• Keeps us on the foundation of salvation (Isa 33:6; Jer 32:40)

Intimacy with God• The LORD confides in those

who fear Him (Psalm 25:14)

Dwell in His manifest presence• God is greatly to be feared in

the assembly of the saints, and to be held in reverence by all those around Him (Psalm 89:7)

Many of us presume that the world is the ultimate threat and that God’s function is to offset it. How different this is from the biblical position that God is far scarier than the world …. When we assume that the world is the ultimate threat, we give it unwarranted power, for in truth, the world’s threats are temporary. When we expect God to balance the stress of the world, we reduce him to the world’s equal …. As I walk with the Lord, I discover

that God poses an ominous threat to my ego, but not to me. He rescues me from my delusions, so he may reveal the truth that sets me free. He casts me down, only to lift me up again. He sits in judgment of my sin, but forgives me nevertheless. Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, but love from the Lord is its completion.
