UPSTREAM VMware support
• FDR⁄UPSTREAM supports the backup and recovery of VMware VSPHERE and supports v5x, and later.
• UPSTREAM ensures a consistent, recoverable backup of a virtual machine that can be managed by the UPSTREAM product for reliable operation. In addition, those backups can be restored easily.
• All VMware backup scheduling and monitoring is done via the UPSTREAM Web Portal GUI. Minimum requirement is Web Portal v 2.1 or higher and UPSTREAM client v4.0 or higher.
See UPSTREAM client manual Chapter 2 for details on installing Web Portal.
UPSTREAM VMware support
• The following slides provide a high level overview and outline the steps required for performing configuration, backup operations, and restores.
Configuration
Go to the Storage Server/Security Tab 1 – Edit the Storage Server properties to enable VMware backups by checking the ‘VMware use’ box
1a. Define Storage resources. This is done in the ‘Storage Resources/Policies’ tab. Most users will create one Tape and one Disk resource. This example illustrates Disk on an Upstream z/OS storage server.

2 – – Define Storage Policies. This is done in the ‘Storage policy’ tab, & uses the Storage resources that were defined in the previous step, as well as retention scheme. Backups schedules, described later, will point to these Storage policies. Most uses will create multiple Storage Policies to handle different backup retention needs and choose whether the backups go to Disk or Tape.Click to

All the following steps are performed in the VMware tab

These must be Windows clients running v4.0.00 or later & be configured for Web Portal use, defined in the UPSTREAM client configuration. This is done by First highlighting the client system you want to use as a proxy client, and then clicking the configure button in the client list.
Step 1
