Preliminary Programme
FDI 2014 New DelhiAnnual World Dental Congress
11-14 September 2014New Delhi, India
Dear colleagues
The 2014 FDI Annual World Dental Congress will be the 102nd in a series of international dental events spanning more than a century. It will also be the second AWDC held in New Delhi in the space of 10 years.
What makes the FDI AWDC special? We all learn our profession in our national dental schools; we all have ‘our way’ of carrying out procedures, which, in our view, is the best way. But, the purpose of an international event is not to make value judgments about methods: it is to share knowledge and experience with our peers worldwide, challenge our pre-conceived ideas and widen our perceptions. This is even more essential today with the worldwide migrations of dentists and patients.
We anticipate a very big event: India is one of the world’s largest growth markets for dental skills and dental products. Every year, some 25,000 newly-trained dentists graduate from the country’s nearly 300 institutes offering dental qualifications schools. Furthermore, India is today one of Asia’s and the world’s largest and fastest growing economies, with a dynamic dental sector whose value to the national economy runs into billions of US dollars.
India is one of the oldest civilizations in the world and a prime attraction for both domestic and international tourists looking to revitalize their mind, body, and soul. Its capital, Delhi, is sprinkled with dazzling gems: captivating ancient monuments, fascinating museums and art galleries, architectural wonders, a vivacious performing-arts scene, fabulous eating places and bustling markets. Congress venue Greater Noida, within the New Delhi region, is one
of the largest business centres in Asia, with a wide variety of options of lodging and accommodation from budget friendly to absolute luxury.
FDI is the international voice of dentists, representing some 200 national dental associations and specialist groups, speaking on behalf of the dentists at international level and defending the interests of the profession.
IDA, comprising 28 State Branches, more than 350 Local branches and 1 Defence branch, has a combined membership of over 50,000 dedicated dental professionals. It believes in the importance of oral health for each and every individual and leads efforts towards attaining that goal. Its aim: optimal oral health for every Indian by 2020.
Together, FDI and IDA anticipate an exceptional participationin what we plan to make a truly incomparable event nationally, for the whole South Asia region and for the world. We look forward to welcoming you to the most significant international dental event in the 2014 calendar.

Land of Civilizations!India is one of the oldest civilizations in the world, spanning a period of more than 4000 years, and witnessing the fusion of several customs and traditions, which are reflective of the rich culture and heritage of the country. As the seventh largest country and largest democracy in the world, India stands apart from the rest of Asia, marked off as it is by mountains and the sea, giving the country its distinct geographical entity.
Unity in DiversityIndia is a pictorial kaleidoscope of landscapes, opulent historical and royal cities, golden beaches, misty mountain retreats, colourful people, a confluence of rich cultures, and festivities. The Indian culture has several hues like its vast geography. People speak different languages, dress differently, follow different religions, eat different foods, but are of almost the same temperament. In the recent past, the country has recorded remarkable success in a number of sectors—commerce, technology, communications, health care and infrastructure—facilitating sustained growth of the economy.
A trip to India is exceptional for business people and tourists as this wonderful land always offers something new for everyone.
A journey to Incredible India will be an enduring experience.
