FDA was originally began as a federalconsumer protection supported by thepassage of the 1906 Pure Food and DrugsAct

This law was approved due to the seriousabuses in the consumer productmarketplace.

The 1906 Act was approved to prohibitmisbranded and adulterated food and drugs

in interstate commerce.
