NAPLAN TESTING PROGRAM
On Tuesday, 9th May two tests will be administered. These include: Language Conventions (testing spelling, grammar and punctuation) and Writing. Reading skills will be tested on Wednesday, 10th May with Numeracy to be tested on Thursday, 11th May, There will be a ‘make up’ day on Friday 12th May for any student who was unable to do their tests on the designated day. These literacy and numeracy tests form a key part of the National Assessment Program endorsed by all Australian Ministers of Education. The aim of the national literacy and numeracy tests is to provide a measure of how Australian schools and our students are performing in the areas of reading, writing, spelling and numeracy. These tests are only one measure and need to be considered along with school-based assessments which are designed to identify students’ strengths and areas for growth. Parents and Carers may wish to talk to their children about the test and encourage them to do their best. Kindly ensure that your child is present at school on these days. However, students absent on the above days may sit for the test on Friday 12th May.
I wish our students everything of the best for the tests and am confident that you will give off your very best, InshaAllah

Dear readers,
Term One saw 6A students exploring short stories for English. They learnt the
components of story structure such as exposition, rising action, climax, falling
action and resolution; narrative points of views and even had a hand at writing
their own short stories.
For Math, students revised and reinforced past concepts of whole number
operations namely that of multiplication and division; fractions, decimals and
percentages before moving on to harder ones in Term Two.
This term, we are working on news reports as portrayed in the various formats.
We are learning about the main elements of a news article such as headlines,
bylines, leading and supporting paragraphs. We will also be learning how to
differentiate between fact and opinion and choosing the right target audience in
the lead up to our English assignment later in the term, which is to write a news
article.
We have a busy term
ahead and in fact the
whole year as we
inch our way closer
to graduation. Make
dua for us that we
will be even more
productive Insya-
Allah. Ameen.

News from 6A
The Bully by Asia Khalif
Once, there was a boy called Rem. He
was such a bully that whenever anyone
saw him, they would run away and hide
from him except for one little girl. Her
name was Sunny.
Sunny was a sweet and funny girl and every day she would walk pass
Rem without feeling even a little bit scared. Rem was confused. He
thought that he was the scariest boy in the neighbourhood.
One day, Sunny came up to Rem and told him to stop being mean
and scary and be kinder to others but of course he would not listen.
Days passed and Rem grew ruder and meaner but Sunny kept on
advising and encouraging him to change for the better. She did not
give up.
Eventually, Rem gave in. He agreed to try at least. Sunny was so
happy. She told him to start by saying kind words and by offering
help to others. It felt weird but he tried and he liked it.
Then, Sunny told Rem to go to the people he had wronged and to
ask for forgiveness from them. She also advised him to go and
volunteer at charity events and fundraisers. And also, to be kind,
sweet and humble. This was all new and strange to him but he tried
it anyway.
Days passed, then weeks, then months and he got better and better.
He became less and less angry. Everybody grew to like him and finally
the day came when nobody was scared of him anymore. Rem was
like a new person. He was no longer Rem the Bully but Rem the
kindest and most generous soul in the neighbourhood.
Sadly, Sunny died a month later. Unknown to Rem, Sunny had been
battling cancer all this while. Rem was devastated but he kept on
doing the right things and making the right choices just like how
Sunny would want him to.
Years later, he went on to university and graduated with a degree in
business. He settled down, got married and had children. Rem owed
a lot to Sunny. He always remembered her kind words and advice to
him. That was her greatest gift to him. And he owed it to her to pass
them on to his children so that they could the same to their children.
The most important lesson he learnt was not to give up on anybody
who was bad and that anyone no matter how bad, could change.
The Mean Girl by Aisha Fleming
There was once a girl named Mia
Anderson. She was always so mean to
her neighbour, Anna Fianna. They lived
on Coconut Street and they went to
Coconut Primary School.
One day in school during lunch, Mia saw Anna carrying a tray
of food. There was also some change on the tray. Mia came up
to Anna and said, “Come with me. I want to tell you something
but close your eyes first.” The poor unsuspecting girl followed
Mia’s instructions. The moment Anna closed her eyes, Mia
quickly snatch her food and leftover money. Anna cried but
luckily, she remembered that she still had five dollars tucked
away in her bag.
When it was home time, Anna went up bus number eight to
go home. Mia was sitting at the very back. When Anna opened
her bag to take something out, Mia looked into her bag and
saw the five dollars. She quickly grabbed it. Again, Anna was
helpless. She was very sad. She did not know why Mia was so
mean to her.
After the school bus dropped Anna off at her house, she ran to
her mother to tell her how mean Mia was to her.
Mrs Anderson then went over to Mia’s house and asked her
nicely. “Why did you take Anna’s food and money? Why are
you being greedy?”
“Because I just want to,” answered Mia meekly.
“That is not a very good reason, Mia. Please apologise to Anna.
Taking other people’s belongings is not a very nice thing to do.
It’s the same as stealing. How would you feel if someone did
the same to you?” Mrs Anderson said.
Mia nodded her head. She felt bad. She suddenly realised that
she had been very mean to Anna. She had always been jealous
of Anna because she had a loving family. Mia parents were
divorced a year earlier. Since then, she had been taking out her
anger on poor Anna.
The next day in school, Mia apologised to a surprised Anna.
From that day, onwards, Mia started treating Anna better.
They soon became best of friends.
The Haunted House
by Aamir Ebrahim
My name is Aamir. I am a ghost buster. I am 13 years old and I live with my mum and dad. I go to a very special school for ghost busters called Ghost Killers High School. My friends are ghost busters like me.
Ghosts scare people away from their houses so that they can take over their houses and stay there. Their plan is to eventually take over the world.
We are now on our way to the last haunted house in town. People say the ghosts in that house can go through walls and even go into people and possess them. Even ghost busters like us were possessed before by these ghosts. Those ghost busters wanted to put these ghosts in special ghost bags but they failed.
But we are prepared for these ghosts. We have learnt our lessons well in school and will be able to defeat and capture them. Wish me luck.

Term one has ended few weeks ago and I feel happy that my students have enjoyed their learning and developed their scientific knowledge. I hope this will continue.
Year 11 and 12 students have learned Cells in action in term one. I am really proud of their sincerity and efforts towards their study. Students has developed several practical skills in parallel to theoretical knowledge which was based on Biochemistry. I understand this was hard but I appreciate their hard work.
