Dear Parents, Winter is now officially here. As the colder weather hits us we ask that parents
check that the children have warm school uniform, including a coat for those cold days. On
days when it is raining we supervise the children inside at lunch and recess times, but we do
encourage them to be active outside when it isn’t raining. Just a reminder that Term 2 finish-
es on Friday June 29, with a 2.30 finish.
Coughs and colds. Over the last couple of weeks we have had a number of staff absent with
colds etc.. Our policy is the same with the staff as it is with the children. If you are sick you
should stay home. Coming to school when you are sick means you are highly likely to make
others sick and so we really do ask that parents keep children at home if they are not well.
New Office/administration building. The school begins the first phase of our building pro-
gram in Term 3, with building works to replace our office and administration area and a few
other maintenance issues beginning early in the term. The new building will be located be-
tween our school Library and the BER building. Hopefully by the end of the year it will be
completed. This will be the new front entry of the school, the general office and offices for
Principal, Assistant Principal etc.
During this construction phase there will be areas of the school fenced off, changes to some
access points to the school, temporary fences put in place and there will be changes to how
some of the grades enter the buildings etc.
Future funding. Our second phase is to seek approximately $5.5 million dollars from the
Government to replace our current main building where the younger grades currently are.
The Master Plan is to demolish the old building and replace it with a new building that will be
connected to the new administration building and will link in with the new portable building
where the two Grade 5/6 grades currently are. To get this amount of money will not be easy
as the Government is putting lots of money into new areas of Melbourne that obviously need
new schools and into other areas of Melbourne where the community voice has been strong.
In the coming months the school may ask parents to support the school’s drive to show our
politicians that the children of Fawkner are just as important as the children in other parts of
Melbourne.
Reports and Parent Teacher interviews. Teachers are busy writing reports for all children
which will go home with the children on Friday June 22. Parent Teacher interviews will be
sent home shortly so parents can book times for the interviews on Thursday June 28.

Cross Country News
Congratulations and well done to all the twenty students who attended and represented Fawkner Primary School at the Glenroy District Cross Country event on Thursday 24th May at Boeing Reserve, Strathmore. Our school competed with 11 other schools on the day.
Students who participated in this event were:
During the event many of our students ran massive personal bests over a tough course. It was pleasing to see that most of our students stuck to our race plan of cruising out strongly during the first half and running faster in the sec-ond half.
The bravery award this year goes to Adam, Mahmoud and Nasser for running courageously while they were all fasting. It was a happy ending to see all the students able to complete the 2 km course and run past the finish line.
A big thank you to Rob and Frances who attended and helped out during the day.
