Faux Real

A hand-painted faux rug

can add real impact.

There’s nothing more gorgeous than

tight (read : nonexistent) budget? Or

(gasp!) you’ve pulled back that nasty

carpet to reveal--plywood!

� 3DLQWLQJ�\RXU�ÁRRUV��HYHQ�MXVWa painted faux rug, can help you pull

WRJHWKHU�GDPDJHG�RU�ROG�ÁRRUV��:KHQ�,� XQFRYHUHG� ROG� ZRRG� ÁRRUV� XQGHU-QHDWK�FDUSHWLQJ�LQ�P\�RIÀFH��,�ZDV�GLV-PD\HG�WR�ÀQG�WKDW�WKH\�ZHUH�DOUHDG\�painted. Even worse, I suspected the

paint might even contain lead since

WKH\� ZHUH� SDLQWHG� DERXW� ÀIW\� \HDUV�ago.

Aside from an expensive and

possibly dangerous paint removal

SURMHFW��WKHUH�ZDV�QRWKLQJ�IRU�LW�EXW�WR�paint over the paint. I added a hand-

painted “rug” to throw a little color and

dimension into the room, and sealed

with it with polyurethane to add a little

protection.
