Fat Quarterly
Welcome to issue 10 of Fat Quarterly, the issue celebrating summer 2012 in London; “London Calling”. With the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, the Olympics and Fat Quarterly’s first ever sewing retreat, this is a big summer for London and we wanted to celebrate that with a London issue of Fat Quarterly.
For those of you who missed it, the London retreat was a rip roaring success. We had people coming not only from the whole of the United Kingdom but also from across Europe and from as far away as Canada, Australia and the US. Tacha flew in from Germany, John flew in from the US and Katy, Brioni and Lynne all drove down from the top of England down to London at the bottom. We had workshops from all the FQ five as well as from Lucie Summers, Aneela Hoey, Claudia Toelle and Kerry Green. We had challenges, games and quizzes and the huge success of this year means that we are already working on booking the event for next summer.
If you missed the special London retreat issue, currently on sale for just $5, head on over to fatquarterly.com and download it now! Subscribers will have to pay for this issue but will be getting a bonus issue later on in the year.
As many of you know, Fat Quarterly, Shape Workshop, is now in shops and selling like hot cakes, racing up the Amazon quilting books charts. John’s book Pretty in Patchwork: Holidays is out in September and gives you lots of ideas of stitchy projects for Christmas. Meanwhile Tacha’s Hex-a-Go-Go book is now available to buy and is packed full of English Paper Piecing projects to do whilst sitting out in the summer sunshine.
And so back to London 2012. We have projects in this issue celebrating London 2012, including, of course, the Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics. These include a full quilt of dancing union jacks from Lynne, some crown jewels from Kati Spencer, an Olympic quilt from Jen Johnston, and a multitude of pillows capturing the spirit of London in 2012.
So pour yourselves a Pimms, grab a deckchair, be ready with the suncream and, this being London, with your umbrella too, and enjoy summer in London with Fat Quarterly.
xoxoTacha, Katy, Lynne, Brioni, and John
