Fashion is a popular style or practice, especially in clothing, footwear, accessories, makeup, body, or furniture. Fashion is a distinctive and often constant trend in the style in which a person dresses. It is the prevailing styles in behaviour and the newest creations of textile designers.[1] Because the more technical term costume is regularly

linked to the term "fashion", the use of the former has been relegated to special senses like fancy dress or masquerade wear, while "fashion" generally means clothing, including the

study of it. Although aspects of fashion can be feminine or masculine, some trends are androgynous.

Evolution of fashionIt is amazing to see how the different events in history have influenced and changed the way

people have dressed throughout time. Some of the most popular fashions are classic, they can stand the test of time and hardly ever "go out of style", only experiencing minor changes to keep up with the trends. Other clothing items could be considered "fads", styles that are only

popular for a short season and then never worn again. Often certain fashion trends are dependent on the tastes of particular groups of people or cliques and are usually associated with

social status or cultural preferences like the type of music a person likes. Fashion can also be influenced by world events such as war or the economy. For example, during World War II,

people were only allowed a certain amount of fabric so they were forced to create simple outfits that were practical enough for wartime duties. From the 1920s to the 1990s, popular fashions reflected the mood of each decade and showcased changes in society as the styles of clothing

Is fashion necessary?

• Fashion and style differ depending on several factors, including culture and traditions. Nearly every culture and religion has its own style of dress which sets it apart from others. Fashion plays an important role in establishing identity, beliefs and thoughts throughout the world.

• Fashion also enables people to display personality and personal preferences. It allows people to show off not only dressing style, but provides an opportunity to set trends. Feeling comfortable in certain clothing or fashion pieces also helps to boost confidence and self-esteem, so fashion has a large influence on society in most areas of the world, and trends are usually established through advertising.

Latest trends in fashion 2017

"Sneakers will continue to be extremely popular in the upcoming year," advises Gennie Yi, Intermix's buyer of designer and ready-to-wear. "Because of their versatility, you can never have too many. Glitter, leopard, and satin updates to sneakers effortlessly dress up an outfit and give you a reason to buy multiple pairs."

"Corsets had such a huge moment this year, but I'm not sure if I see designers continuing this into 2017 after the trend was covered in such a major way in the press," says Foley.

"There's a fresher graphic interpretation of the sweet and romantic trends of 2016," says Yi. "The tulip flare has moved onto a sharper asymmetric hemline, the soft lingerie-dressing look has evolved into strong and powerful corsetry details, and the romantic and luxe velvets of the past are now modernized with an easy-to-wear attitude."

"A huge change is coming in the denim world," warns Jaffe. "Skinny jeans with stretch have reigned supreme for a long time but we anticipate a shift toward contrast denim styles in vintage silhouettes.“
