Historical Photographers• Richard Avedon
• “His fashion and portrait photographs helped define America‟s image of
style, beauty and culture for the last half century” The New York Times
•
Simplicity, movement, expressions, posture and composition all create asense of elegance and ingenuity that we want to bring to our own work.

Historical Photographers• Horst P Horst
• His work frequently references surrealism and a regard for the ancient
Greek ideal of physical beauty.
•
We like the use of shadows, movements and lighting in a lot of hisimages. The images he creates are intriguing yet simple and elegant.

Contemporary Photographers• David LaChappelle
• Often uses elaborate sets with underlying political and religious
narratives.
•
We like how his work is unique and „out there‟ but also how he managesto tell a story within a fashion image and the different layers he creates.

Contemporary Photographers• Steven Klein
• His images are controversial and like LaChapelle can create a narrative
within an image.
We like that they are cinematic and almost like stills from a movie.

Fashion Designer • Gareth Pugh
• One of the most influenced Avant Garde designers. His works often resemblegeometric structures or architectural sculptures more so than clothing.
• We like the futuristic appearance and angular clothing create extraordinarilyunique clothing.

Lighting• We are interested in using lighting as an installation within the image to
make as much as of impact as the clothes, the hair and the makeup.
• Like our most inspirational photographers, we are interested in doing
something unique and original but also as a visual device to link images
within a series.
• Bold lighting will help to portray a futuristic appearance

Outside of Fashion - Agne• Madonna
• I‟m inspired by her ability to put on such extraordinary shows in visual aid
and in music. Her perfectionism and controversy and the confidence to
be these things are what inspires me.
• She ignites ideas for me from her fashion, her music, her performances.

Outside of Fashion - Claire• Jean Pierre Jeunet
• Attention to details, a dark and dry humour.• The framing and composition of shots. It is so thought through and planned,
something that is missing from a lot of modern cinematography.• His films are more like art pieces. Everything down to the colour is a
masterpiece.

Outside of Fashion - Dan• Andreas Gursky
• The way he composes his photographs are very aligned and unified.
Everything is straight and composed well.
• I try to work in a similar way when shooting not only in landscapes but for
other genres and styles of photography.
