I want to thank and acknowledge John Court, Victor Lambert and Harmonie Saltzman for their many years of service on the board of directors of the chamber. Each of them have contributed countless hours and have been instrumental in helping our chamber grow.

We welcome our newest board member, Joe Leone of Safeguard Bradley Market-ing. Joe has been a very active member and has served as our membership chair during 2016. With the help of his committee, the chamber is ending 2016 with a record high of 237 members!

Thank you to Rose Larsen, our Networking chair, for her tireless efforts in organizing and promoting our monthly After Hours Events. We also thank all of the members who generously hosted our events. There are so many positive advantages to net-

working; essentially, the more people you know who know what you do the more likely you are to get business referrals. We hope you’ll make some time to take ad-vantage of the many networking events hosted throughout the year.

Farmingdale Chamber has developed a wonderful reputation throughout the business community on Long Island. So many of our members work very hard to uphold this reputation and recommend us to their business associates. We sincerely appreciate everyone’s effort but our greatest appreciation this year goes to Bill Moseley of BBA Photography Corp.

Bill Moseley will be honored as the chamber’s ‘Volunteer of the Year’ at our Holiday Party and Installation of Officers and Directors for generously donating his time and talent as a professional photographer. He has captured just about every event host-

ed by the chamber - luncheons, parades, ribbon cuttings - as well as other events in the Farmingdale community. Bill donates all these photos to the chamber for our use in promoting the chamber on our website, our social media platforms, and in print media. Thank you, Bill, for helping Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce continue to grow and for helping our members grow their businesses.

As promised in last quarter’s newsletter, the chamber has successfully launched our new website and back office system. There are so many useful features of the new system - we hope you’ll start using some of them to your advantage. One we are

particularly interested in is ‘Daler Deals’. Your business can post special offers or coupons on our website to attract new business. Plans are underway for some of our directors to meet with the PTAs and other organizations in the community to begin promoting these ‘deals’. We see this as a way to drive community traffic to the web-site and hopefully it will benefit all of our members. Residents can also join a mailing

list to be advised of any ’new’ deals that are offered by our members. If you cur-rently advertise in local newspapers, consider posting those same ads on our chamber website. It’s a benefit that’s included in the price of your membership!

Other useful benefits are your ability to post job openings, promote special events on

our calendar, and publish news releases. These listings are published to the cham-ber’s website and also to our social media accounts, giving you even more publicity. All of these features are available through the Member Information Center (MIC) which you access by logging into the website. Having trouble logging in or navigating

the MIC of the website? We offer hands on training to anyone interested. Contact Jo Wider at 516-286-7800 for details.

We’re looking forward to another active year in the chamber. Chris Wider is in the process of arranging our luncheon meetings. Contact him at (516) 752-1007 if

you’re interested in being a guest speaker at one of these meetings. Contact Rose Larsen at (516) 637-3794 if your business would like to host an After Hours event.

The chamber is instituting an Ambassador Committee and we need some volunteers! Ambassadors simply contact new members to welcome them into the chamber, encour-age them to attend events, and introduce them to other members. Please contact Joe Minieri (516) 244-0588 if you can help.

We’re also excited to be working with MapToons again in 2017! We published a map with them 5 years ago and it was a great success. We're still distributing those dated maps at community events and they're still a hot item!

19,000 colorful business maps will be delivered to all residences and businesses in Farmingdale community.

Member News

Member Spotlight American Legion Farmingdale Post 449

The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpful-ness. It is the nation’s largest wartime veterans service organization, committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome pro-grams in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to America’s service members and veterans.

The Hugh C. Newman III Memorial Post 449 was named after a life-long Farmingdale resident who was a highly decorated Vietnam vet-eran and firefighter. He was well-known and respected in the community. New-man also worked at SUNY Farmingdale, was very active in the Methodist Church, and the Farmingdale Fire Department, in which he was a life member.

The American Legion’s success depends entirely on active membership, participa-tion and volunteerism. The organization belongs to the people it serves and the communities in which it thrives. For more information on how to join Farmingdale’s American Legion, please visit their website or contact Commander Phil Strehl (516) 420-8584.
