Preparation:1. Use the size 20 Shader brush to basecoat the front and back with Carbon. Let dry. Lightly sand smooth.

2. Using the 5/8” stencil brush, load with Rouge. Begin brushing on the surface from the top down. Don’t cover completely, you want some of the Carbon to show through.

3. Next, using the same dirty brush, load with Vintage, repeat, brushing from the top down.

4. Load brush with Inheritance & repeat, brushing from the top down.

5. Use a liner brush to paint the woodgrain and knots. Mix a little water with Carbon to an inky consistency. 1

Start at the top, paint the cracks at the top and pull down lines. Paint the knots. Repeat working from the bottom.

6. Transfer the rooster design.

Painting Instructions:Rooster: You will use the fi lbert and liner brush to do most of the rooster. 1. Using the size 8 Filbert, basecoat the waddle and comb with Rouge. Do two coats, let paint dry in be-tween coats. Shade with a little Carbon. Highlight with Fiery Red.

2. With a clean brush, brush in the breast area with Vintage and dry brush the middle wing area. This does not need to be covered completely. Let some of the background show through.

3. Using the fi lbert, brush Rustic over the wing area and start brushing in the tail feathers. Add a little shading on the breast and around the face areas with Rustic. Paint the legs and feet with Inheritance.

4. Shade the comb and waddle with Carbon. Begin brushing in Carbon with the fi lbert brush on the tail feathers and middle wing area. You can use the liner brush to make smaller feathers.

5. Paint the beak with Inheritance. Two coats. Shade with Rustic. Highlight with Everlasting. Paint the mouth line with Carbon. Also using the liner brush, pull down from the comb and waddle lines with Yes-teryear and brush in the tail feathers, the wing and breast area. Use the fi lbert with Timeless to dab on the breast area. You will just touch the surface and lift up the brush. Brush in some tail feathers with Time-less.

6. Repeat with Carbon.

7. Begin to fi ll more middle wing feathers and more tail feathers.

8. Dry brush with Everlasting. Use Everlasting to add more feathers to the head and neck, also the mid-wing and tail. Paint the eye with Inheritance. Then with Carbon. Highlight with Everlasting.

9. Paint the small words with Carbon. Paint “FARM STAND” with Yesteryear. Line the letters on the left side with Carbon. Highlight with Everlasting. Let dry.

10. Brush on the Deep Brown Crème Wax with a large fl at brush. I used paper towel to blot the chicken to remove some of the wax. This will lighten it up. Let dry.

Finishing:Drill 1/16” hole to attach to wreath with wire. Make a bow and attached with wire to wreath.
