Every little bit helpsEven a small amount can make a big difference!

The Farm Heritage Trail follows the former

route of the Big Four Railroad in Boone County,

Indiana and beyond. The corridor has been serving

the transportation needs of the region since 1832

when the railroad first put the line into service.

The Friends of Boone County Trails, a not-

for-profit volunteer group, began work on the

corridor in 2000 - almost two centuries after the

first train ran along the line. In less than 10 years

the abandoned railroad has been converted from an

overgrown and almost unrecognizable corridor to

one of the premier long distance trails in the state.

This could not have been done without the support

of Boone County along with the time and energy of

countless volunteers and financial donations from

many individuals and organizations.

Today 20 miles of trail connects cities and

towns across the county. Plans are now underway

to extend the trail 10 miles south to Zionsville.

Eventually the trail will expand north creating a

connection to Lafayette. Once complete the 40 mile

trail will cross through some of the most beautiful

farm country in the America!
