Emil Racoviță
• Emil Racoviță was a Romanian biologist, zoologist,speleologist, explorer of Antarctica and the first biologist in the world to study the arctic life.
• Together with Grigore Antipa, he was one of the most noted promoters of natural sciences in Romania.
• Racoviță was the first Romanian to have gone on a scientific research expedition to the Antarctic, more than 100 years ago, as well as an influential professor, scholar and researcher.

Constantin Brâncuși was a Romanian sculptor, painter and photographer who made his career in France. Considered a pioneer offmodernism, one of the most influential sculptors of the 20th-century, Brâncuși is called the patriarch of modern sculpture. As a child he displayed an aptitude for carving wooden farm tools.

• Mircea Eliade ( 1907 -
1986), historian of religions,
phenomenologist of religion, and
author of novels, novellas, and
short stories.
• His Ph.D. thesis was titled,
Yoga: Essai sur les origines de
la mystique Indienne (Yoga: An
Essay on the origins of Indian
mysticism), and this was the first
ever exhaustive study on yoga
to have been published by a
westerner.

biologist. In 1974 he
was awarded the
Nobel Prize in

Christian de Duve.
