Hello and welcome to the Winter edition of the Family Grapevine for East & South Notts
Another busy summer has flown by! The new websites for both West Notts and East & South Notts are now fully up and running with regularly updated events diaries and more, please visit and check out our hard work! We were also out ‘n about with lots of glue and glitter at play days over the summer which was great fun! A big hello to everyone who came to see us.
With our new East & South edition things have got stupidly busy and I am delighted to welcome my long suffering friend Cathy to the FG. We have fantastic plans for 2013...hope she knows what she has let herself in for!!
As usual our Winter edition is full of information covering everything from help and support to places to go and have fun! Arcade in the heart of Nottingham City. Whilst pregnant with my son I began a journey to live life more responsibly, ethically and naturally. Organic food, and a healthier lifestyle were on top of the list! I wanted natural and as chemical and cruelty free products as I could fi nd for me and my baby and I knew that real nappies were the more ecologically sound option, so I trawled the internet looking for answers. I stumbled across the Utility Warehouse opportunity when my husband’s brought a DVD home from work. Too good to be true I thought to myself, and with such a small fee to sign up, I was full of disbelief: it sounded very straightforward: no staff , no premises, no stock and comprehensive, free training.
Having recently become a mum of 2 small boys, I knew that anything I took on had to be totally fl exible. I had decided to take voluntary redundancy at my job, and was interested in replacing my income and providing some long term security.
Fortunately, this business fi ts the bill; I am able to fi t in it around daily activities and it has become easily integrated into family life. I can see my income steadily growing each month and the support I receive to reach my goals has been second to none.
Anyone who wants to earn some money and has drive and enthusiasm can become successful with the Utility Warehouse.

Open House (OH) was founded by a group of Mums in 2012 with the aim of supporting those who are or have been affected
by any psychological and emotional condition which has developed during pregnancy or during the postnatal period.
These include:antenatal depression postnatal depression anxiety & OCD
Our relaxed and informal fortnightly drop-in group takes place at Wollaton Park Community Centre, Harrow Road, Wollaton
Thursdays 1.15pm – 3pm. There are toys & equipment for young children at the group as
well as a library of self help material.We run two Facebook pages, one is a general open site which provides information about OH and the other is a closed group
which allows members to share, support and ask for advice in the knowledge that only members of the group can view their posts.

The Meningitis Trust, a registered charity, helps and supports everyone struggling to cope with the impact of meningitis through the following professional free services:

The Meningitis Trust is the UK’s longest established meningitis charity and is completely reliant on voluntary donations to continue its work. There’s a sponsored Toddle Waddle near you where you can have some family fun and help support the work we do.
Meningitis is life-threatening and affects the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord. Meningitis and associated septicaemia (blood poisoning) can kill within hours and can affect anyone at any time. Those most at risk are children under the age of fi ve, teenagers and young adults, and people over 55.
Symptoms commonly include fever with cold hands and feet, vomiting, headache, stiff neck, dislike of bright lights, joint or muscle pain, drowsiness, confusion, and, in babies, a dislike of being handled, pale blotchy skin, an unusual cry and a blank staring expression. Both adults and children may also have a rash that doesn’t fade under pressure (a sign of septicaemia). Symptoms may appear in any order and some may not appear at all.

Christmas Craft Activities
Sorry folks... tis the season for glitter!!Here are some great ideas for getting the family
together to create your own little bit of Christmas! All you need is gold, silver or white spray paint (adult use only), Christmas wrapping
paper, red ribbon, old Christmas cards, glue, glitter, wire ties (eg. as used on sandwich bags) and any other bit and pieces that
you have lying around!
Woodland Forage & Sparkle!Nottinghamshire has some fantastic woodland footpaths and parks, get wrapped up and enjoy a walk in the fresh air. In between rushing
around burning off energy the kids can collect fi r cones, twigs and bare branches (gloves might be a sensible precaution).
Fir cones look fabulous sprayed gold, once dry dab a bit of pva glue on its edges and, holding it over a container, sprinkle on the glitter. Tie a red ribbon around the top and make it into a loop and let them
hang their fi r cone decoration on the tree. Place six twigs in two triangle shapes and fi x in place with wire ties. Place one triangle on top of the other and turn the top 90 degrees to form a star and again use ties to keep in place. Paint or spray white,
gold etc, dab on glue and apply the dreaded glitter if wanted or attach baubles with the ties, tie on a gift tag with your child’s name...get creative! Once fi nished, tie a loop of ribbon through the top and
hang up in pride of place!Small bare branches with children’s decorations hanging on them can look fantastic! Paint or spray if you wish and fi nd a suitable
container and place to stand it in. Hang on the baubles!
Christmas BuntingBunting looks really cute but can be expensive. Using wrapping
paper or old Christmas cards let the kids make their own! Cut out a long triangle template in cardboard and draw round it on
the back of either Christmas paper or old cards. Cut out the triangles (kid’s crinkly scissors are brilliant for this!) and with the
paper ones fold the top over your string or ribbon, trim the corners and glue or staple in place. With the card ones you can use a hole punch and thread the string or ribbon through. Use plain card and
your older children can spell out their names in bubble writing...one decorated letter per triangle for a really personal touch.
Christmas Cards Whether its scribbly, daubed, exuberant or precise there’s nothing like childrens art! When making cards the trick is to keep the art away from the card itself until the last minute! Cut out stars, Christmas trees, angels, baubles etc i in card and let them loose with felt tips, crayons, paint, tissue paper etc. (not good at drawing? Download some shapes from the internet - Activity Village is a good source) Once the artist has fi nished glitter can be applied. Glue a square of thickish card on the back, fold an A4 or A5 piece of card in half, apply glue to the square of card and stick it on to the front, or arrange one from each child. Cut a
piece of paper, fold and fi t as leaves inside the card for messages and names...once complete run glue down either side of the fold and stick into the card.
