SATURDAY 26TH - SUNDAY 27THAUGUST BANK HOL
IDAY WEEKEND!
A U G U S T B A N K H O L IDAY WEEKEND
Saturday 26th - Sunday 27th August
Weedon Weekender 20172
Weedon Sports Association is a Northamptonshire based charity established by local residents in 1994 to promote and assist with recreational & sports services with-in the village. (Registered Charity Number: 1026474)
It is run entirely by volunteers though a Man-
agement and Operating Committee made
up of 15 local residents some of whom are
representing other groups.
As a registered charity, we must also have
registered Trustees and their details can be
seen on the Charities Commission website.
We have a website where lots more informa-
tion is available about the WSA as we are in-
formally known. We operate under a simple
constitution also published on our website:
www.weedonsa.btck.co.uk
Over the years we have used the 400 Club
as a regular standing fundraiser. It only costs
£5 per month with a chance of winning £200
each month. We have always hoped to swell
the membership numbers so that we can in-
troduce a further prize each month but th at
hasn’t happened yet. Why not think about
joining? Fill in the form on page 31 and bring
it along the Weekender and we can get you
registered.
WSA have helped many local groups
throughout the village both with volunteer
time and financial assistance and now have
a grant application form available on the
website should you have a project you want
to be considered for (Weedon based). We
have over the years helped: Weedon Boxing
Club, Scouts, Brownies, Cubs, Weedon Bec
Pre School, Weedon Bec School, Weedon
Football Club, Weedon Junior Football Club,
St Peter and Paul Church, United Reformed
Chapel, Riverside Drive Bingo Club, Senior
Citizens Christmas Party, Table Tennis Club,
Badminton Club, Weedon Bec Cricket Club,
Weedon Bec Village Hall, Weedon Bec Par-
ish Council
WSA have also been working on a much
needed project for this village for many,
many years and after a very concerted effort
from a small team of volunteers and a local
architect, full Planning Permission to build a
Community Sports Facility Building at Jubilee
Field was finally granted in December 2015.
This would enable the old blue portakabin
unit currently used for showers and toilets to
finally be replaced - it has only been there

for about the last 20 years! – and bring Wee-
don Bec up to a standard of facilities enjoyed
by many other local villages whilst creating
an additional community use space. To-
tal investment to achieve this permission is
in the region of £12,000.00 and this doesn’t
account for all the volunteer hours that have
been expended.
WSA were at last faced with a whole new
challenge - to get this building out of the
ground and built for the use of all our resi-
dents. Fill in the form on page 31 and bring it
along to the Weekender and we can get you
registered.
Why are we hosting the Wee-don Weekender?
Following such a successful event hosted
for the Queens Diamond Jubilee in 2012, so
many people were asking ‘when are we go-
ing to do that again?’.
So, after much deliberation over the follow-
ing year, WSA volunteers decided that we
would ‘give it a go’ and at the same time
re-instate the Village Fete which had been
disbanded a few years previously.
And so the Weedon Weekender was born
and the first of its kind was hosted over 3 days
during the August Bank Holiday Weekend in
2014. It has now become a firm favourite and
many people start asking in the very early
part of the year ‘Is there a Weekender again
this year?’.
Now that we have what we think is a very
family friendly, diverse and fun event estab-
lished we would like to see this continue for
many years to come.
The mission of the Weedon Weekender
This now established event enables the
WSA to raise funds for a few key reasons:
1. WSA want to get the Community Sports
Facility Building built for the village
2. WSA want to have funding so that we can
offer to help other village groups
3. WSA want to provide a community event
that boosts our community spirit so we
can help each other more
The Weekender is organised entirely by vol-
unteers and the planning starts in February or
March of the same year. The working group
is formed of volunteers from within the WSA
and also, very splendidly, from a considera-
ble number of local residents who are more
than happy to lend a hand. It is a great team
effort and one that, as an organising group,
we get a huge amount of enjoyment and lots
of laughs along the way.
We are always open to people getting in-
