More News You can UseSome Results of DNA Testing via the Family Tree DNATestsDan Fulghum, who is spearheading the DNA testing and matchingfor the Fulgham-Fulghum members has reported that he hasmatched with another Fulgh'mand the 12 MarkerY-DNA match wasan exact match. The other Fulgh’m(name withheld as I do not havepermission to use it), was from the lineage of Captain Anthon'soldest son, John; while Dan’s lineage was from Captain Anthony'sthird son, Michaell. The DNA testing indicates that Dan and thisother Fulgh‘m were descended from a common ancestor, in thiscase Captain Anthony Fulgham.More astounding is the match between Dan Fulghum and Don S.Laurenson of New Zealand using the 12 Marker Y-DNA test. Thismatch indicates the strong probability of a genetic link of both ofmese gentlemen to the Danish\fikings. Dr. James E. Fulghum(nowdeceased) wrote on page 50 of his book on the Fulgh‘ms that bothFoster and Joseph Tilley had written that the De Foleschamps ofNormandy were descendants of the famous old Sea King, RagnarLodbrok of Denmark. Dr. Jim ended his article on the Danish\fikings with the question, ‘Were the De Foleschamps of Normandyreally descendants of Ragnar Lodbrok ?' Now, thanks to theDNAtesting, we have some scientific evidence that the story is mostlikely true and the answer is 'Yes'.As you remember. the De Foleschamps were the Norman forebearsof die Foljambes of England, from which family. Captain AnthonyFulghamis undoubtediy descended. Are you interested to see ifyou are a genetic Fulgh*m? A few ofuswith the name are not genetic Fulgh'ms but mostof us are. Onthe Internet, one can find out all about the Family Tree DNAproject. This project is a legitimate programof Y-DNA testing. Since itsinception, in April of 2000. Family Tree DNAhas been associatedwith the Arizona Research Labs, led by Dr.Michael Hammer, oneof the world's leading authorities in the field of Genetics. Havingother renowned scientists in itsAdvisory Board. FamilyTree DNA isthe world leaderand only organization in the field of GeneticGenealogy that has been constantly developing the science thatenables many genealogists around the world advance their families'research.Formore information. please go to www.faml!1Qe_gna.com.Please remember that the Y-DNA is from the Y chromosome whichis directly transmitted only from male ancestors to maledescendants.

L November 2004 Fulgham-FulghumFamily Facts ' Page4The Old Richland Church

At the close of the Fulgham/FulghumFamily2004 Reunion, 3 descendants of MicajahFulgham, Les& Betty Fulghamfrom HoustonTexas, Ray& Shirley FulghamfromWilseyville,CAand Byron& Sue Libby from Chico, Ca, traveled tojust outside of Macon, Georgia to see thechurch Miwjah started in l8l1.

Though the first churchwas a log cabin built a short distance fromwhere wewere, weare sureMicajah helped build the first buildingand preached there until 1820.

The church we visited was built in the late 1940to 1850's. It is a beautiful Greekrevival building. We were graciously greeted by Mrs. Peggy FaukMrs. BootsieFaulk and hisHonorJudge Duross Fitzpatrick, the President of the RichlandRestorationLeague. JudgeFitzpatrick had taken time from hisjob as a Federal District Court Judge to meetwith us andpresent me with a book on Twiggs County andGeorgia History.Walking in to the church and seeing that it was basically the sameas it had beenwhen built wasvery exciting. The church is divided down the middle so that the men sat on the left and thewomen on the right (they even entered through different doors). The doors on the outer front ofthe entrance is where the slavesentered andwent upvery small and steep stairs to a balcony.Mrs. Peggy Faulk had broughtwith her many old church records for us to examine and booksthat talked about the church. Also. she hadthe original Silver Communion set from the 1840'swhich was used in the services. We walked out to the church cemetery and realized that some ofthe head stones that we could readwere of peoplewho could have listenedto Micajah preach.

In 1948the RichlandRestoration Leaguewas organized to restoreand preserve thisbeautiful building and its history. Currently they are carefully removingthe old siding. fixing anystructural problems, planing_the lumber and puttngWhat they can back on the building. Anyadditional wood neededwill be of old wood from other sources. One sidewill be having thefoundation replaced, and the roof has been replaced sincewewere there. They havea newsletter and if anyone is interestedyoumaywrite to Darrell Faulk 1692Longstreet Road,Cochran,Georgia 31014.

I was only in the church for a few minuteswhen my emotions got the best of me I satin one of the pews and cried. To see our family history first hand and realize how we arerelated in our common heritagewas something I hope I will never forget.

The annual Fulgham/FulghumFamilyReunionshavebecomepart of us andwe enjoyeachyear the chance to travel our country and see family. For the family who is unable to attendI do understand. but hopeyou will becomemore involved in meetingyour family. In the next fewyears youwill be hearingmoreandmoreabout the 2007 reunionand I cannot stress enough toeveryone to makean effort to be there andmeet our family. We haveavery rich andwonderfulfamily history, growing upwith the last nameof Fulgham, not knowingother Fulghams, and nowto be involvedwith so many Fulghams is truly a blessing.
