PROF. LEOCADIO RODRIGUEZ-MAÑASHead of the Department of Geriatrics at Hospital Universitario de Getafe (Madrid)President of the Research Committee at Hospital Universitario de Getafe Co-ordinator of the Spanish Collaborative Research Network on Aging and Frailty

Prof. Leocadio Rodríguez Mañas (MD, PhD) is the past Director of the Foundation for Biomedical Research at the Hospital Universitario de Getafe in Madrid, Spain. He is the co-ordinator of the Spanish Collaborative Research Network on Aging and Frailty – RETICEF (Ministry of Scienceand Innovation), Co-director of the epidemiologic study ‘Toledo Study on Healthy Ageing’ that is being carried out on 2.495 community-dwelling elderly people, member of the European Academy for Medicine of Aging and Secretary of the Special Group of Interest in Diabetes of the European Union Geriatric Medicine Society. He is also involved in drafting Guidelines and Statement Position Documents on Diabetes in older people. He is a member of Evaluating Committees of several Spanish public research organisms. Advisor of the PAHO (WHO) in topics related to Health in Old Age. Member of the Committee of the Global Initiative for Old People with Diabetes (EASD-IAGG-AMDA). He is a Principal Investigator in 26 research projects sponsored by public agencies andindustry. At the present time he is the Principal Investigator in two European Projects, one of them (FOD-CC) aimed to �nd a clinical de�nition of frailty, while the other one is a two-stage project(MID-FRAIL) aimed at examining the e�cacy of a multimodal intervention in prefrail/frail older patients with type 2 diabetes to prevent the development of further frailty or disability.

A/PROF. CATHERINE SHERRINGTON

�e George Institute & �e University of SydneyPrincipal Research Fellow

A/Prof. Sherrington is an NHMRC Senior Research Fellow at �e George Institute and at the University of Sydney. She is an Honorary Senior Research Associate at the Prince of Wales Medical Research Institute and Conjoint Senior Lecturer, School of Public Health and Community Medicine, University of New South Wales.

Her research focuses on the design and evaluation of exercise programs for the prevention of fallsand disability in older people. Recent and current studies include clinical trials, systematic reviewsand cohort studies.

Cathie is a Chief Investigator for several current NHMRC Grants. Prior to completing her PhD and Masters of Public Health Cathie was a clinical physiotherapist in aged care and rehabilitation. She is the author of multiple publications in the �eld of falls prevention in older persons.
