We were in be-tween dates, and we had scheduled an appointment with a doctor that someone had recommended to see if he had any different answers regarding m.s. I’ve given most of them away to muse-ums and for auctions for some cause. The place that I gave the most important outfits to – like the “Grammy” dress, the ACM Awards show outfit, the BMI Rob-ert J. Burton award gown, etc., etc. are in the museum in my hometown.

A few of you al-ready know, but I wanted to thank you again for your prayers for my guitar player and one of my favor-ite best friends, Robert Thames.Unfortunately, as of Sat. night, Oc-

tober 5, 2013, all of his gigs down here on planet earth were cancelled. He’s been booked for a permanent engagement – all expenses paid with his very own mansion – in heaven, where he’ll be accompanying God’s heavenly choir of angels. While our prayers and the doctors and medicine were not enough to save him from multiple my-eloma, lung cancer, and ankylosing spon-dylitis, I really thought he was on the road to recovery. I guess the only way to look at it now is our loss is heaven’s gain.

Robert was a jewel. He lived his life and loved it. He wasn’t a complainer. He was God-fearing. He was special with a capi-tal “S.” A loyal friend. He showed up. He faced his challenges. He was dependable. Sensitive. He lived and breathed to play music. We loved him. He was a good song-

writer, too. You can hear the heart and feel the soul of Robert in a song he wrote called “The Cricket Song,” that I recorded for my FARGO COUNTRY cd on Warner Broth-ers in 1977 (now on COLLECTABLES). He played in almost every show I’ve done since 1974.

So, God, since Robert’s best friend was probably his guitar, would you give him one of your gold-plated finest sounding guitars with your very best equipment that works perfectly every time so he won’t have to fiddle with those amps. Music was his closest family along with his friends. We didn’t want to lose him, and it’s really hard to believe he’s gone. But….You’re the Boss, and well, I guess we just have to ac-cept it and adjust. We’re really gonna’ miss him. His light. His friendship. His funny ways. His phone calls. Thank you so much for the gift of Robert’s life and his talent. His whole being. Who he was. Please take good care of him.

So, rock on, sweet friend. I hope you know you’ll always play such a special and unique part in the soundtrack of our lives, our hearts, and our memories.

Goodbye Sweet Friends....

Former record company president Jim Foglesong (pictured above in the center with the late great promotion man Larry Baunach) presenting Donna with her first gold album for The Happiest Girl in the Whole USA. Mr. Foglesong died July 9, 2013. “This is the man who made my dreams come true when he signed me to Dot Records in 1972. To say I have always been indebted to him is an understatement,” said Donna. “He was one of a kind. Rare. He had integrity and character. He was truly a wonderful person, too special for words. He will be sorely missed.”
