Housing Closes: Tuesday, December 20, 2016
All residence halls will close on December 20 at 12:00 noon. Please plan to be out of your building or
apartment before that time. No one will be permitted to enter a closed building during the break period.
Break Housing Request Deadline: Monday, December 12, 2016
The College recognizes that because of pressing academic work, athletic commitments or travel distances,
some students must remain on campus during scheduled break periods. For security and budgetary
reasons the College does not leave every residence hall open. Our decision to leave particular buildings
open is informed by planned facilities projects. If you must remain on campus you are required to file a
Break Housing Request Form by December 12.
Remaining on campus during Semester Break or returning to campus prior to Saturday, January 21,
without permission from the Office of Residential Life is a violation of college policy.
Abroad in the Spring?
Avoid damage charges that occur after you leave campus ‐‐ complete the Room Inspection/Condition Contract (RICC) on‐line prior to departing for semester break.
Return any metal keys you have been issued to the OneCard Office
Bicycles
Bicycles should be locked to bike racks before leaving for winter break. Any unregistered or unlocked bicycle left
outdoors will be collected and held by Security.
Please Assist Your Housekeeper
Your housekeeper and the staff in Facilities Management deserve everyone’s assistance to make their
work easier. Please do the following before leaving for break:
Empty, defrost, and turn off your refrigerator. Close and lock all of your windows. Turn down your heat. Save electricity by unplugging all clocks, electronics, etc. Take trash and recycling out.
Leaving Your Car On Campus?
All cars left on campus during winter break must be registered with Safety and Security and display a current decal. Cars
will need to be parked in the Farley Lot close to the tennis courts.
Room Assignments for Spring Semester
All assignments, reassignments, and room changes must be approved by the Office of Residential Life. If
you have a vacancy in your room/suite/apartment, it will most likely be assigned spring semester. If you
have questions or concerns regarding housing, please stop by the Office of Residential Life.
Security and Safety Concerns
Facilities Management and Security Staff may enter student rooms over break to secure buildings. Any
obvious policy violations will be written up in a Security report.
As students leave campus after their last exams and final papers, those remaining can become isolated.
For those who are going to be on campus until the very end of exam period, we suggest that you take the
following precautions for your personal safety:
Lock your door at all times, regardless of whether you are in or out. Do not go out alone at night. Report all suspicious people and suspicious activity to Security: x3500. Read all Security Alerts you receive.
Reminders while traveling:
Notify your family members or friends of your travel plans and the route you are going to take if you are driving home. If these plans change, promptly notify your family or friends.
Make sure you phone is fully charged before you travel. Make sure you have money for gas and tolls.
Do not pick up strangers when driving home. Stop at well‐lit places where there are many people.
