Following the service, all are invited to a luncheon in theLower Auditorium of Wingate Hall.
In 2003, Killian Noe founded the Recovery Café, a therapeutic community for men and women recovering from homelessness, addiction and other mental health challenges in Seattle, Washington . The Recovery Café Network has helped launch five additional Recovery Café’s in other cities and is helping other groups replicate the model nationwide .
In 1985, Killian co-founded Samaritan Inns, which she directed until 1999 when she moved to Seattle . Samaritan Inns are intensive transitional and longer term healing communities for men and women recovering from homelessness and addiction in Washington, D .C .
Noe is pastor and founder (1999-present) of New Creation Community in Seattle, a ecumenical faith community committed to contemplation and action and in the tradition of Church of the Saviour, D .C . A life-long student of community models, Noe travelled the world to learn from various communities in India, Nicaragua, France, and Asia . Noe was awarded an honorary Doctorate in 2015 from Seattle University and has been honored with Distinguished Alumni awards from Wake Forest University in 2015 and Yale Divinity School in 1998 . She is the author of Finding our Way Home: Addictions and Divine Love (2001) and Descent Into Love (2015) .
She is married and the mother of two adult daughters .

Thursday, September 22, 7:00 p.m., Brendle Recital HallUnderstanding Religious Extremism Among the Children of Abrahamwith Dr. Charles Kimball, former professor and department chair, Wake Forest University
Dr . Kimball will explore the ideological and historical roots of religious extremism within and between the three monotheistic traditions - Judaism, Christianity, and Islam - that trace their heritage to the prophet Abraham . He will then offer strategies for countering such extremism in our modern globalized world . This lecture is part of the Carlton Mitchell Lecture Series sponsored by Interfaith Winston-Salem with support from several community and Wake Forest University partners .

Friday, October 21 - Saturday, October 22, UNC Asheville, Asheville NCFaith in Literature: A Festival of Contemporary Writers of the Spirit
This two-day event is a gathering of 11 writers whose work deeply engages—by embracing, complicating, or wrestling with—a faith tradition or spiritual practice . The event will feature writers from several faith traditions and will include readings, panel discussions, guided conversations that involve audience members, and two open productions of On Being with Krista Tippett, who is participating thanks to festival partner WCQS – Western North Carolina Public Radio . The festival is sponsored by the School of Divinity, UNC Asheville, North Carolina Arts Council, and WCQS (Western North Carolina Public Radio) .
Monday, November 7 - Thursday, November 10, Wingate HallFestival Week of Prophetic Ministry
The Festival Week is a week-long event when the School of Divinity faculty and students together promote and practice the prophetic spirit of the Divinity community . The festival will include guest lecture and praxis of prophetic ministry in various art forms such as a protest music concert, arts display and preaching . The Festival week is an innovative part of the academic course, Prophetic Ministry: Social Witness, Protest Arts, and Preaching . The Wake Forest University School of Divinity is a dynamic and ecumenical theological institu-tion that prepares men and women to be religious leaders in a changing world .
