Table of ContentsDear Lifelong Learners,

Thank you for joining us for another semester of Lifelong Learning courses! As fall approaches and we begin to see hints of change, I’d like to highlight three ways in which USI Lifelong Learning is evolving to meet your personal and professional pursuit of knowledge.

First, you’ll find that some of our course listings are no longer limited to fall, spring or summer. We understand the importance of scheduling, and by providing extended notice of course offerings whenever feasible, we hope to enable you to achieve your goals in the time that fits your needs. Keep in mind that new courses and additional dates are added in real time throughout the year on the website and are more up-to-date than the snapshot in time that the print catalog allows.

Find the most up-to-date listings at USI.edu/lifelonglearning.

Second, you’ll find that our online course offering is continuing to grow. Since we have more online course offerings than space to print them, you’ll find that we’ve added a “Featured Online Noncredit Courses” section which highlights some of the most popular of more than 500 courses and certificates available.

Find featured online noncredit course listings at USI.edu/featured-online.

Find all of our online noncredit course listings at USI.edu/lifelonglearning-online.

Third, I want to remind our regional businesses and organizations that nearly all of our seat-based courses can be customized to meet your employees’ training needs. We develop site-specific and job-specific training to assist you in achieving your goals.

More information is available at USI.edu/custom-training.

We are available to assist you with questions by phone during our regular business hours at 812-464-1989.

Thanks for your commitment to lifelong learning!

Personal Enr ichmentSUDDENLY SINGLE - PREPARING FINANCIALLY FOR THE NEXT STAGE NO ALP564Divorce or widowhood can find a woman in a completely different financial situation than what she’s been accustomed to. Recent research shows that some women encounter a drop in overall income, wealth and retirement security after these life events. However many others transition successfully into independent financial security with confidence about their future. The primary factor is to take positive actions as soon as possible. Placing attention on a few financial basics is an important first step. For women who have previously shared financial responsibilities with a significant other, it can be reassuring to create a solid base before addressing more complex issues. Having a solid understanding of the financial basics can serve as a first step to wealth building and provide some flexibility in the big picture of financial management. This course will cover the following topics: creating a net worth statement, building a budget, evaluating emergency savings, understanding credit scores, investing for the future, protecting financial security.
