Fall 2017 TSU Wind Ensemble Auditions - Percussion The audition repertoire is as follows: Snare drum Bartok: Concerto For Orchestra, movement II, beginning to [9] Rimsky-Korsakov: Scheherazade, movement IV, P to downbeat of R Xylophone Kabalevsky: Colas Breugnon Overture, [9] to [12] Timpani Beethoven: Symphony No. 7, measure 89 through first two bars of [C] All auditions will be blind (i.e. Dr. Charles will not be able to see you). To ensure complete anonymity, do not speak during your audition. An audition proctor may be available to help. The audition repertoire is to be played in the order listed above. A copy of the music will be provided; however, you may use your own copy if you feel more comfortable with that. Tips for a successful audition: Listen to recordings of professional orchestras performing these pieces. Match their style, phrasing, tempo, mallet choices, etc. Practice with a metronome. Practice tuning timpani. Remember, your goal is to tune as quickly and quietly as possible, without sacrificing intonation. Have your sticks and mallets readily accessible. You want to be able to move as efficiently as possible without rushing or having to fumble through a large mallet bag.
