More of our amazing members and supporters! Ongoing Projects in 2016

HooRWA is supporting the Berk-shire Regional Planning Commis-sion’s EPA grant to sample the Green River for E. coli bacteria. Testing by MCLA students in 2014 showed low bacteria counts in the Green. Verifying those lower counts might mean the raising of the water quality classification of the Green River. Also we look forward to partnering with the South Williamstown Community Association for an annual Green River Clean up day. Finally, we are working on the possibility of a Green River Trail off of near Linear Park.

The Hoosic River We are working with Hoosic River Hydro in North Pownal as they work to re-establish hydro-power at the Tannery Dam in North Pownal. This includes monitoring the silt removal taken from above the dam and work-ing to establish a portage trail for ca-noes and kayaks around the dam. HooRWA’s work on the lower Hoosic in New York state includes removal of water chestnuts and supporting the Village of Valley Falls as it works to remove the remains of the former Thomspson mill.

The Walloomsac River In Bennington, HooRWA is in the first year of a 3-year grant to collect samples on the Walloomsac and test for benthic macroinvertebrates (water critters).
