About Us is a division of Optimal Life Solutions, LLC. Optimal Life Solutions, LLC was founded in early 2012 by Debra Schaffer and Amanda Maher as a psychoeducation-focused company based in Silver Spring, MD offering group anger management classes and individual anger coaching. In order to continue our mission as an education-based company, we expanded our services to provide continuing education to mental health professionals in the Montgomery County Maryland area. Ms. Bowers is a licensed social worker in Maryland and has worked in the mental health field for over 11 years in various practice settings. Ms. Bowers is currently working towards a doctorate degree in counseling psychology. Her area of research interest is suicide in the fire service. Ms. Bowers’ professional experience includes work as a psychiatric coun-selor in the emergency room, inpatient and outpatient mental health treatment centers, suicide crisis hotline, and mental health treatment centers, suicide crisis hotline, and Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) with both private and military organizations. Currently, Ms. Bowers is a full-time Assistant Professor and Human Services Program Manager at Frederick Community College where she teaches courses in social work, counseling, ethics, and other related topics. She also owns a small private practice in Frederick, MD and serves as a member of the Montgomery County Critical serves as a member of the Montgomery County Critical Incident Stress Management Team.

Behavioral health clinicians are continuously confronted with ethical issues that range from an invitation from a client to a social event, accepting client gifts, to serious issues related to multiple relationships, countertransference, and counselor impairment. In order to prevent serious ethical and legal issues, clinicians need to stay current, educated, and prepared to address a wide variety of ethical issues. This presentation will provide participants with an understanding of ethical issues in clinical practice with a specific focus on ethical issues pertaining to counselor impairment. Participants will examine the relationship between ethics and values, review relevant ethical codes, and evaluate and apply an ethical decision making model to various case scenarios. 9 - 10am: Introduction to the positive psychology paradigm. Seligman’s PERMA model.

Gayle Scroggs has her Doctorate in Social Psychology, with deep expertise in teaching at college level (social and personality psy-chology, positive psychology, group dynamics, adult development, diversity and gender issues, communication, motivation, creativity, and stress/coping.) She is an expe-rienced executive and professional coach with Professional Certified Coach credential from the International Coach Federation. Dr. Scroggs is also co-founder of the Argentina Chapter of the International Coach Federation and is an award-winning trainer in the MentorCoach program.

This full day workshop will serve as an intensive introduction to positive psychology applications for practitioners. Participants will gain several new strategies for immediate use in their professional and personal lives that lead to greater flourishing and self-management in daily life. Practical examples and participant engagement will be emphasized.

Agenda

Donna O’Neill has been employed in the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) field since graduating from the University of Maryland School of Social Work with a specialization in EAPs. She has practiced with agencies such as the Internal Revenue Service, United Stated Postal Service, as well as several smaller federal and private companies throughout DC, VA, and and private companies throughout DC, VA, and MD. She is currently employed at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center’s Resiliency and Psychological Service as marketing and outreach manager promoting workplace wellness and leadership skill building.

Do you want to expand your practice by working with EAPs but don’t know how to get started? This workshop will teach you the basics so you can understand EAPs and the role the private practitioners play in working with them. You will learn a brief history of EAPs as well as gain an understanding of the difference between internal and external EAPs. By the end between internal and external EAPs. By the end of the day you will know how to begin connecting with EAPs so you can start getting more clients!

Agenda

Mieke Rivka Sidorsky (nee Windecker), LCSW-C is a licensed psychotherapist, a published author, a Harvard University CASE research fellowship recipient, and an experienced lecturer. She was trained and personally mentored in sexual dys-function and sex therapy from internationally renowned Dr. Laura Berman, Oprah’s relation-ship and sex expert, at the Berman Center in Chicago. She is a professional member of the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists and the Society for Sex Therapy and Research. She is a 2014 candi-date for AASECT Certified Sex Therapist. She lives in Silver Spring with her husband, David, and her son and daughter.

This three hour training will introduce therapists to the treatment of female sexual dysfunctions. Approximately 45% of women suffer from a sexual dysfunction during her lifetime. It is imperative that therapists have the tools necessary to identify this need, diagnose the disorders, and have general knowledge of the major dysfunctions. The course will cover three major dysfunctions. The course will cover three important areas of multi-dimensional assessment of female sexual function including introduction to female sexual response, introduction to the holistic approach to female sexual functioning, diagnostic criteria for the disorders, and introduction to the treatment of desire and pain. Using the diagnostic criteria in DSM 5 and tools Using the diagnostic criteria in DSM 5 and tools for assessment, therapists will review and discuss 2-3 clinical case studies.
