Fall 2009Citation Relay
Bob Brain – Loyola Law School (Los Angeles)
Selina Farrell – Pepperdine School of Law
Relay Rules• Each TA group comprises one of four student
teams.
• Each team designates a starting member.
• Starting members approach the board and correct, in numerical order, the 8 citations in the following office memo passage.
• Team members may consult their Bluebooks while attempting to draft correct citations.
Relay Rules• Each starting member raises his/her hand to
notify professor when he/she believes his/her first citation answer is accurate and complete.
• Professor confirms whether the citation is correct.– If yes, the starting member may resume play by
proceeding to the second citation or “pass the baton [i.e., marker]” to a team member.
– If no, the starting member must “pass the baton” to a team member, who then must attempt to correct the citation.
Relay Rules• If the team member working at the board
gets “stumped” at any point, he/she may pass the baton to another team member.
• Play continues for all 8 citations according to the above rules.
• Caveat: Seated team members may not assist a team member who is working at the board. – Any team member may, however, offer to receive the
baton from the team member working at the board.
Relay Rules• The team who first completes all 8 citations
correctly will be declared the winner of today’s relay.
• Caveat: Any ambiguities (spacing or otherwise) will be counted as incorrect!
• During play, the professor is the final arbiter as to whether a particular citation answer is correct.
• HAVE FUN!
