The Falcon Fusion is a highly-featured GSM- and UHF-based unit which is used for the secure transmission of alarm signals to a control room.

The Falcon Fusion will communicate via GSM messages to the control room. It will fail-over to UHF messages should the GSM network fail, or should the device for any reason not be able to successfully send the messages via GSM.

The Falcon Fusion has a universal Contact ID interface to alarm panels as well as a serial interface to some leading panels. It also has seven dry contact input triggers.

In addition, the Falcon Fusion has two dry-contact relay outputs which can be used to command alarm panels and other devices. These outputs can also be controlled via the MiFalcon mobile application.

3. INSTALLATION3.1 Falcon Fusion WiringConnections to the Falcon Fusion are shown below:

3.1.1 Power SupplyThe Falcon Fusion must be connected to a stable 12V DC (nominal 13.2V) power supply. If a battery is available in the alarm panel, it must preferably be powered directly from the battery.


3.1.2 AntennasThe Falcon Fusion is supplied with two antennas. One for GSM connection (short antenna) and one for UHF connection (long antenna).

Please install the antennas as per the diagram below:

3.1.3 Check AC The Check AC (CAC) input detects the presence of the AC supply and is used to check for AC power failure. The CAC line should be connected to one of the transformer's SECONDARY terminals. DO NOT connect this line to the mains.

The CAC input will detect AC voltages between 10 and 24V.

If the CAC line is not connected, the Falcon Fusion should not be programmed to send AC Failure or Restoral signals.

The AC Failure and AC Restore signals have a programmable delay (default set at 1 minute) in order to prevent false triggers.

3.1.4 Dry Contact InputsThe dry contact inputs can be used to detect alarms generated from the outputs of the alarm panel or from other sources.

If the external device generates the alarm by pulling the input to ground (negative trigger), the pull-up jumper should be inserted on the input of the Falcon Fusion.

3.1.5 Contact ID InputsThe Falcon Fusion can 'intercept' signals sent by the alarm panel on its telephone line (Contact ID) interface.

If the Contact ID interface is to be used, the alarm panel's TIP


and RING lines should be connected to the TIP and RING lines on the Falcon Fusion.

The alarm panel must be programmed to use its dialer, and the option for reporting must be set to Contact ID. Refer to the programming manual of the applicable alarm panel.

3.1.6 Serial PortThe Falcon Fusion can receive alarms from the following alarm panels on its serial port:

3.1.7 Relay OutputsTwo dry-contact relay outputs are available on the Falcon Fusion. These outputs can be commanded to turn on and off via the GSM network. The outputs are rated at 24V AC or DC, up to a maximum current of 5A.

Do not connect the relay outputs to the mains supply.


3.2 Falcon Fusion Installation

Software versionConnect the Falcon Fusion to the 12V supply, observing polarity. On start-up, the Falcon Fusion will display its software and hardware versions, e.g.

3.3 GSM Connection and Signal StrengthThe performance of the Falcon Fusion depends on the quality of its connection to the GSM network.

The Falcon Fusion will send alarms quicker and more reliably if it has a strong connection to the GSM service provider.

When the Falcon Fusion has powered up, it will start connecting to the network, displaying its status as it initialises and connects (see section 3.5 – Indicators and Controls)

When the Falcon Fusion has connected to the GSM network, it will display the network priority of the network (Global) or the sim card (Dual sim) it is connected to and the signal strength of the connection.

If an adequate signal strength is not obtained:Ÿ Move the Falcon Fusion to a more suitable locationŸ Fit the Falcon Fusion with a higher gain antenna (available

from FSK) Ÿ Change the default sim on dual sim Falcon Fusions

3.4 Changing the Default SIM Card (Applicable to dual SIM Falcon Fusions only)

The Falcon Fusion has the option of changing the default SIM card to be used. The default SIM card should be changed to the one with the highest signal strength.

To do so:

Ÿ Briefly pressing the push button for one second will cause the Falcon Fusion to swap SIM cards and restart using the new SIM card

Global sim:Connected on network with priority 1; signal strength 6

Dual sim:Connected on sim 1; signal strength 6

The minimum signal strength required for good remote connectivity is 5.



Ÿ Wait until the Falcon Fusion has re-connected to the GSM network on the new SIM card and displays the signal strength

Ÿ If the Falcon Fusion displays an error message (E1 or E4), the selected SIM card is not working and the other one should be selected

Ÿ The minimum signal strength required is 5. Lower than this signal strength will make it difficult to access the Falcon Fusion remotely

3.5 Selecting the Alarm Panel Serial Port FormatThe alarm panel serial port can be selected via the onboard push-button (as well as the PC-based programming software).

4. PROGRAMMING

4.1 Onboard Push-ButtonThe onboard push-button is used to:Ÿ change the operation of the serial port (select the alarm

4.2 PC-based ProgrammerFalcon Fusion configuration software utility is a Windows-based programmer which is used as the primary means of programming the Falcon Fusion.

The Falcon Fusion programmer requires a PC running Windows XP or above, with an available USB Port. The FSK USB programming cable is required to program the Falcon Fusion (see Appendix B).

To program the unit:Ÿ Push and hold down the push-button for more than 7 secondsŸ The display will now show Pr to indicate that it is in

programming mode


Ÿ The unit will stay in this mode for 20 seconds to allow programming

Ÿ If the unit exits programming mode, repeat the process


APPENDIX ASERIAL INTERFACE

The Falcon Fusion uses a standard interface cable (with interchangeable ends) along with an adapter to connect to various alarm panels except for the DSC PowerSeries and the IDS805 panels which use a key-bus module and the Orisec panel which has its own serial cable whose ends are NOT interchangeable.

Set the serial port format to Texecom on the Falcon Fusion (Refer to Section 3.4). Connect the Falcon Fusion to Com1 on the alarm panel using the serial interface cable with the TEXECOM-IDS adapter board .

Uploading and Downloading the Texecom Premier Alarm PanelThe Texecom premier alarm panel can be uploaded and downloaded using the Texecom WinTex software (available at www.texe.com). Please contact the local Texecom agent for more details.

Additional software is available from FSK Electronics which will be needed to connect to the alarm panel (via the Falcon Fusion). Please refer to the FSK APN USER GUIDE.

PARADOX SERIAL INTERFACEThe Falcon Fusion can send alarms received from the serial port of the Paradox SP65, E65, MG5050 and SP6000 alarm panels.

Set the serial port format to Paradox on the Falcon Fusion (Refer to Section 3.4). Plug the adapter marked PARADOX into the serial port on the Paradox alarm panel. Plug the other end into the Falcon Fusion’s serial port.

PIMA SERIAL INTERFACESet the serial port format to Pima on the Falcon Fusion (Refer to Section 3.4). Plug the adapter marked PIMA into the serial port on the Pima alarm panel. Plug the other end into the Falcon Fusion’s serial port.


The Pima serial interface will send the standard FSK Contact ID

alarm codes.

DSC NEO SERIAL INTERFACESet the serial port format to DSC PowerSeries Neo on the Falcon Fusion (Refer to Section 3.4). The Falcon Fusion can send alarms received from the PC LINK_2 header of the DSC PowerSeries Neo panel.

Plug the adapter marked DSC PowerSeries Neo Adapter into the PC LINK_2 header on the alarm panel. Plug the other end into the Falcon Fusion’s serial port.


DSC POWERSERIES FSK KEY-BUS MODULEThe Falcon Fusion can send alarms received from the keypad-bus of the DSC PowerSeries alarm panel.

Wire the DSC PowerSeries FSK Key-bus Module to the keypad-bus on the alarm panel and then connect the 4-pin molex connector to the serial port of the Falcon Fusion.



IDS805 KEY-BUS MODULEThe Falcon Fusion can send alarms received from the keypad-bus of the IDS805 alarm panel.

Set the serial port format to IDS on the Falcon Fusion if using an IDS-supplied key-bus module or to IDS805 FSK Key-Bus if using an FSK-supplied DSC PowerSeries/IDS805 FSK Key-Bus Module (Refer to Section 3.4). Wire the key-bus module to the keypad-bus of the alarm panel and then connect the 4-pin molex connector to the serial port of the Falcon Fusion.

IDS X-SERIES SERIAL INTERFACESet the serial port format to IDS on the Falcon (Fusion Refer to Section 3.4). Proceed to program the panel as per the Falcon Connection & App Set-up Guide provided, for alarm signals to be sent and/or for app connectivity.

RISCO LIGHTSYS 2 SERIAL INTERFACEThe Falcon Fusion can send alarms received from the RS232 com port of the Risco LightSYS 2 alarm panel with firmware version 3.03 or later.

Plug the adapter marked RISCO into the serial port on the Risco LightSYS 2 alarm panel. Plug the other end into the Falcon Fusion’s serial port.

Proceed to program the panel as per the Falcon Connection &


App Set-up Guide provided, for alarm signals to be sent and/or for app connectivity.

ORISEC SERIAL CABLEThe Falcon Fusion can send alarms received from the COM 1 serial port of the Orisec alarm panel with a firmware version of 4.52 or later.

Plug the side of the serial cable labelled “panel side” into the serial port of the Orisec alarm panel. Plug the other end into the Falcon Fusion’s serial port.

NB. Connecting the wrong end of the cable to the wrong device will damage the device.


APPENDIX BPROGRAMMING CABLE AND SOFTWARE

The Falcon Fusion is programmed using the FSK USB Programming Cable and FSK DVD kit which contains the programming software (FSK Item Code 40027).

Installing the drivers for the FSK USB to UART ProgrammerInstall the drivers before plugging the USB Programmer into the computer’s USB port.


In the FSK DVD, navigate to the following directory: \FUSA FSK USB Serial Adapter Drivers

For 64 bit operating systems, double click on:CP210xVCPInstaller_x64.exe

Otherwise, double click on:CP210xVCPInstaller_x86.exe

Follow the instructions on DRIVER software to install.


Installing the Falcon Fusion Configuration SoftwareOn the FSK DVD, navigate to the following directory:

Double click on the setup.exe application and follow the instructions.

Upon opening the software for the first time it will require an initial setup. The following window will pop up:

Select the folder where the templates will be saved for Falcon Fusion devices.


Select the COM port that will be used to communicate with the device.

From there the following window will appear:

Connect the Falcon Fusion to the correct COM port and click on the read button.


Upon completion, the window will look like this. All the settings that are greyed out cannot be changed.


All the input and output settings can be changed by clicking on the Input/Output Settings Tab.


LIMITED WARRANTY

Limitations of security products: Security products and alarm systems do not offer guaranteed protection against burglary, fire, or other emergencies. They may fail to warn for diverse reasons, including (but not limited to): power failure, dead batteries, improper installation, coverage “blind spots”, coverage areas overlooked during installation, defeat by technically sophisticated intruders, component failure, or inadequate maintenance. Alarm systems should be checked weekly to ensure that all devices are working properly. AN ALARM SYSTEM IS NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR INSURANCE.

Amecor (Pty) Ltd warrants its products to be in conformance with its own plans and specifications and to be free from defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and service for twelve months from the date of original purchase. Seller’s obligation shall be limited to repairing or replacing, at its option, free of charge for materials or labour, any part of which is proved not in compliance with seller’s specifications or proves defective in materials or workmanship under normal use and service. Seller shall have no obligation under this Limited Warranty or otherwise if the product is altered or improperly repaired or serviced by anyone other than Seller. For warranty service, return transportation prepaid, to the manufacturer.

There are no warranties, expressed or implied, of merchantability, or fitness for a particular purpose or otherwise, which extend beyond the description on the face hereof. In no case shall seller be liable to anyone for any consequential or incidental damages for breach of this or any other warranty, express or implied, or upon any other basis of liability whatsoever, even if the loss or damage is caused by its own negligence or fault.

Customer understands that a properly installed and maintained alarm system may only reduce the risk of a burglary, robbery, or fire without warning, but it is not insurance or a guarantee that such will not occur or that there will be no personal injury or property loss as a result.

Consequently, seller shall have no liability for any personal injury; property damage or other loss based on a claim the product failed to give any warning. However, if the seller is held liable, whether directly or indirectly, for any loss or damage arising under this limited warranty or otherwise, regardless of cause or origin, seller’s maximum liability shall not in any case exceed the purchase price of the product, which shall be the complete and exclusive remedy against seller.

This warranty replaces any previous warranties and is the only warranty made by seller on this product. No increase or alteration, written or verbal, of the obligations of this limited warranty is authorised.
