Welcome Spring! April is a great month for new
beginnings. We welcome baby
animals and birds, those first
blooming flowers, and the life-
giving rains for our land. Here at
Faith, we are celebrating and
remembering events.
Our month begins with
New Member Orientation on April 7. Faith will
welcome new members during the worship
service. We are thrilled they will share the journey
with us!
Palm Sunday on April 14 begins our Holy Week.
We look forward to waving our palm branches as
we celebrate Jesus' entrance in to Jerusalem.
Be sure to attend our Congregational Meeting
after worship on April 14. The Call Committee has
selected a pastor to call. Your presence for
conversation and a vote is needed!
Maundy Thursday on April 17 will remember
Jesus’ Last Supper with the disciples with worship
at 6:30 p.m. Our First Communion students and
their families will share in communion with all
attending that evening.
Good Friday worship on April 18 at 6:30 p.m. will
include a drama sharing the perspectives of
different characters of the Passion Story. Our
Lord’s death was difficult for so many. Come
hear their view of this dramatic event.
Easter Sunday will be a day of great celebration!
It begins at 7:00 a.m. with a sunrise service
including communion led by Faith Youth. An
Easter Breakfast at 8:00 a.m. is hosted by the
confirmation youth this year. At 9:00 a.m. the
Easter theme is “The
Unexpected” with
Holy Communion.
Let’s celebrate
God’s victory!!!

Is the Resurrection of Jesus Fabricated?
I recently read an article by Chris Katulka, Bible teacher for The Friends
of Israel Gospel Ministry. On this month when we focus on the
crucifixion of Jesus on the cross, and the celebration of His resurrection
from the dead, I’d like to summarize some main points from his writings.
Though most denominations of churches vary in theology, one core truth binds the whole
lot together: the belief in the physical resurrection of Jesus Christ. Without the resurrection,
Christ would not have been proven to be the Messiah of Israel, would not have atoned for
our sins, and would not have the power to promise us eternal life. The resurrection is the
central axis of the Gospel of Jesus.
Early on the day Jesus rose, Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and
other women went to the tomb to complete Jesus’ burial process (Luke 24:1-10). According
to their testimony, when they arrived the stone had already been rolled away. They
entered the tomb and two angels said, “He is not here, but He is risen!”
Interestingly, the Gospel writers placed Mary Magdalene as the first eyewitness of Jesus’
empty tomb. Yet a woman’s testimony in the culture of the day was never well received
and often was intentionally overlooked. The disciples considered the women’s witness as
“idle tales, and they did not believe them.” (v. 11).
If Jesus’ resurrection had been fabricated, the Gospel writers would never have placed
Mary Magdalene in the front row of the most significant event of human history. Instead,
they would have concocted a story that would have generated more credibility.
Also, Paul, in 1 Corinthians 15, cited that Christ appeared to over 500 witnesses. These men
and women were still living at the time of his writing. If the resurrection had been
fabricated, Paul was opening himself to serious ridicule. Paul was inviting his readers to
check his facts if they doubt his words.
Finally, almost all of the original disciples and many others who saw the
resurrected Jesus, died a martyr’s death. They gave their lives standing by
the truth that Jesus was, in truth, resurrected from the dead. The strength of
their conviction indicates that they were not just claiming Jesus had
appeared to them. They willingly endangered themselves by publically
proclaiming faith in the risen Christ.
Over two thousand years later, we carry these eyewitness testimonies in our hearts. We
stake our lives on the truth that Jesus not only died in our place on Calvary’s hill, but that
God’s power raised Him from the dead, never to die again. As our risen Lord, He forgives
us all and gives us the hope of eternal life. Together, we celebrate the profound truth of
Easter – Jesus lives as our Savior and Lord!
In His victory,
Pastor Lee Laaveg

The Church of Damascus Road:
A Christian Community of
Reconciliation
In 1996 the city of Ft. Dodge began the
bidding process to have a prison
located in Ft. Dodge. Local clergy were
invited to participate. They submitted a
description of their services to be
offered. The clergy proposed the
formation of a prison congregation headed by an
experienced parish pastor. Ft. Dodge was awarded
the prison and clergy formed a steering committee.
Proposals were drawn up and represented. Approval
was received and a call committee was formed.
Several candidates were interviewed and in the
spring of 1997, Pastor Carroll Lang was called as the
Mission Developer Pastor.
Needing a name for the church, the committee voted on “The Church
of the Damascus Road: A Community of Reconciliation.” Worship
services would be Thursdays at the facility in Rockwell City and Fridays
at the Fort Dodge facility. The first worship service was held with 24
inmates and 12 guests attending. Later bible studies began on
Tuesdays.
Following Pastor Lang’s retirement, the Rev. Paul Stone assumed the
role as pastor. He is pastor to this day.

International Mission Trip to
Mexico City!
We are going to Mexico City to share the word of the Lord! Our 2019
International Mission team, consisting of 17 people (ranging in age
from 11- 55+) will be traveling to Mexico City, July 20-27, 2019.
We will travel to Mexico, to help the helpless, and change the world.
We, along with OSI will provide physical and
spiritual aid to the poor and destitute living in
Mexico. We will help connect these people
with local churches to have them be tied to
support even after our team leaves.
Some of the work we will do will consist of:
helping bring people to Christ, taking vitals,
eye exams and fitting for glasses, pampering
women with hair cuts, nails, etc, prescribing
medications, giving physical exams, loving
and playing with children, supplying food and so much more!
Christ who made the ultimate sacrifice said: “This is my
commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you”
John 15:12. We will go to spread Gods love through word and deed.
Feel called to help? Your prayers or financial support will be
appreciated. Watch for the upcoming fundraising events! If you
have any questions feel free to contact Eric or Cindy Tigges,
Thank you for supporting the sharing of God's love as we move
outside our walls!

Stewardship at Faith
Generous Christians Would others say that you are stingy or generous? Would they say
that you love money or that you love people? The way we use
our money reflects something very important about our
relationship with God.
Jesus warned, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth,
where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and
steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven ... For where
your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:19–21).
It would be a great mistake, however, to think that God only has
negative things to say about money. Money is a great gift that
we can use for significant purposes. “Honor the Lord with your
wealth and with your first fruits,” says Solomon (Proverbs 3:9). Paul
wrote, “Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not
reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful
giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7).
God loves a cheerful giver because He is a cheerful giver. Jesus
freely gave His life for us in love, so I encourage you to pray in
these ways:
Lord, make Christ more precious to me than all else - including
money. Give me a generous heart, sharing for the needs
of others. God, help me trust you at all times, especially
when finances are tight. If you care for the birds of the air,
then you will provide for me as well. I pray that the way I
handle money would express my heart’s worship of you as
my Lord and Savior.
Christians gladly hold wealth loosely and give generously to the
Lord. Any problem with money is rooted in the greedy human
heart. The Lord gives us greater loves than money - finding
greater delight in Christ. What a privilege it is, by God’s rich
grace, to give generously to support God’s work in Christ’s
church.

CONFIRMATION SUNDAY! On Sunday,
April 28 we will have four youth profess
faith in Jesus Christ! The four kids who will
boldly profess faith in Jesus as Lord and
Savior are Autumn Erdman, Emily
Campbell, Jada Piercy, and Reid Tigges.
This is a huge moment in their faith
journey. Each one of these kids had three
years of Confirmation Class. After learning about the core
beliefs of what it means to be a Christian, each one will
profess faith to live a life following the Lord. Praise Jesus! If you
see these kids, encourage them on their faith journey and
continual life of following Christ and walking with the family of
believers.
Why is it important that you and I profess faith in Christ? Our
profession is the outward working of Christ in us. It is the
heavenly call upward in Christ Jesus. It is the affirmation of our
baptism. Our profession of faith are the words that share
Christ to the world. Whether you profess faith in front of the
congregation, in the work place, school, home, shopping
center, thrift store, John Deere dealership, or wherever you
may be, your profession of faith is the stand you take and tell
the world that, “Jesus is the way to God, and I follow Him!”
“I am not ashamed of the Gospel, for it is the power of God
for salvation to all who believe- first to the Jew, and then to
the Gentile.” Romans 1:16
