Chair Carrie Shokraei Nancy Tate ----- Pat Wirth Executive Director Fairfax County Issues $200,000 Grant to Turning Point Suffragist Memorial Association We are happy to announce that we have received a hearty endorsement and a hefty check of $200,000 from Fairfax County to support construction of the Turning Point Suffragist Memorial. The motion to support our project was drafted by Fairfax County Board Chairman Sharon Bulova and Supervisor John W. Foust. They cited its importance to the county's tourism and hospitality industries and said the memorial will only enhance the interest among residents and tourists to visit an important historical and cultural area of Fairfax County. The motion was unanimously approved by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. Occoquan ReCreated: A Grand Reopening Saturday, June 23rd, 2:30-6:00 pm NOVA Parks' Occoquan Regional Park, where the Turning Point Suffragist Memorial will be located, is celebrating its grand reopening on Saturday, June 23, 2018 from 2:30-6:00 pm.

This FREE festival-styleevent will include livemusic from JunkFood (5-8 pm), the acousticstylings of Chris Rall(2:30-5 pm), tours of thebrand new River Viewweddings & eventscenter, a variety ofvendors, food trucks,moon bounces and fun for the family, tours of the park and muchmore!

The centerpiece of thepark is the Jean R.Packard Center along theOccoquan River thatfeatures an event spacefor 300 -- the River View.There is also the 1608Room featuringinterpretive elementsthat commemorate thefirst European/NativeAmerican interactions inour region when Captain John Smith of the Jamestown Colonyexplored the Chesapeake and Potomac and traded with native peopleon the Occoquan. The building also houses the Brickmakers Cafe, acasual dining venue with a patio overlooking the river. Otherelements in the park include a 5K paved loop trail, a new bridge, anew large group shelter, a new playground, and a new seawall andplaza area.

The Turning Point Suffragist Memorial will be added to the parkgrounds by 2020, directly opposite the Jean R. Packard Center.
