Sets of mounting tools
Sets of mounting toolsEINBAU.SET.ALU andEINBAU.SET.ST
FAG sets of mounting tools aresuitable for cost-effective and safemounting of rolling bearings withbore diameters of 10 mm to 50 mmor outside diameters of 26 mm to110 mm. Sleeves, spacers, seals and similarparts can also be easily mountedwith the EINBAU.SET.ALU and
EINBAU.SET.ST (former FAG des-ignation 172013).Rings that are to be fitted tightlycan be driven onto a shaft or into ahousing bore by hitting the mount-ing sleeve with a hammer. In thisway rolling elements and racewaysdo not transmit the mounting forceand become damaged. The per-fectly matched precision compo-nents ensure uniform transmissionof the forces onto the faces of thebearing rings.
Where the EINBAU.SET.ALU isconcerned the mounting sleevesare made of aluminium and themounting rings of plastic. Thecomponents are easy to handleand relatively reasonable in price.
A long wear-free period of applica-tion is achieved with theEINBAU.SET.ST where mountingsleeves and rings are made ofsteel. The tools can also be usedwith workshop power presses.

Hydraulic nuts
TOOLS AND DEVICES FOR MOUNTING
Hydraulic nuts (RKP)
Parts with a tapered bore arepressed onto tapered seats withFAG hydraulic nuts. They are pri-marily used when the drive-upforce of other devices, e.g. lock-nuts and thrust bolts, is not suffi-cient.
Main fields of application:• Mounting of tapered bore rolling
bearings. The bearings can bemounted directly on taperedshaft seats or on adapter or with-drawal sleeves. Hydraulic nutscan also be used to dismountsleeve-mounted bearings.
• Mounting of couplings, gear-wheels, ship‘s propellers etc.
For more detailed information seeFAG Publ. No. WL 80 103.

Hydraulic nuts with displace-ment measuring instrument
If the radial clearance cannot bemeasured with a feeler gauge dueto poor accessibility of the bearinglocation, the axial drive up of thebearing on the tapered seat can bemeasured instead. To do so, ameasuring instrument can bescrewed to the face of the hydrau-lic nut.
If the axial connection hole G 1/4in the hydraulic nut is needed forthe pump, users can drill a secondaxial hole required for the measur-ing instrument themselves. On re-quest FAG also supply hydraulicnuts, suffixed .2A, that already fea-ture such a hole, order example:RKP200.2A.
First, place the bearing onto theshaft. The required oil pressure isdetermined by the bearing sizeand by the number of fitting sur-faces and is indicated in the oper-ating instructions. Then adjust dialgauge to zero. The bearing is driv-en up the shaft by pumping untilthe specified drive up has beenachieved. Which one of the supplied meter-ing needles has to be selected isspecified in the detailed operatinginstructions that come with everymeasuring instrument.

Mechanical FAG extractors
Mechanical extractors are used fordismounting small rolling bearingswith bore diameters of up to about100 mm which were mounted withan interference fit on the shaft orin the housing. The bearings canbe dismounted without damage if
the device is applied at the tightlyfitted bearing ring. Note: Largerbearings are usually dismountedusing the hydraulic method or in-duction heating devices.
With FAG mechanical extractors, the extraction force is usually ap-plied by means of threaded spin-
dles. Hydraulic pressure toolsmake the job easier in some cases.FAG also offer special extractors inaddition to their two-, three- andfour-arm extractors and a hydraulicpressure tool.

Induction heating devices
Many rolling bearings and otherrotationally symmetric steel partsare fitted tightly on the shaft. Larg-er parts, in particular, can be fittedmuch more easily if they are heat-ed before mounting (rolling bear-ings up to a maximum of 120°C).Induction heating is superior totraditional methods such as heat-ing furnaces, heating plates or oilbaths. The induction heating methods arefast and clean. Therefore they areparticularly suitable for batchmounting. The devices can beused for heating complete bear-ings, rings of cylindrical rollerbearings or needle roller bearings,as well as other rotationally sym-metric steel parts such as labyrinthrings, roll couplings, tyres, etc.
Advantages
• fast, power-saving work• suitable for rolling bearings and
other ring-shaped steel parts• extremely safe operation• environmentally compatible, no
oil required (no disposal!)• uniform, controlled heating• easy operation• automatic demagnetisation• very efficient as the optimum
size can be selected for each ap-plication

Electric heating plates
It is a good idea to heat bearingsbefore mounting if they are to begiven tight fits on the shaft (cylin-drical bearing seats). A sufficientexpansion of the bearings is a-chieved at 80°C to 100°C. Duringthe heating process the tempera-ture has to be monitored closely,e.g. with the temperature measur-ing instrument FAG 175830. It mustnot exceed 120°C or else the struc-ture and hardness of the materialscould be adversely affected.Rolling bearings can be heated on atemperature-controlled heatingplate. During the process the bear-ing has to be covered with a metalsheet and turned over several timesto ensure that it is heated uniformly.

The heating plates can be used notonly for heating rolling bearings(max. 120°C) but also for heatinglabyrinth rings, shrink-on rings andsealing rings as well as aluminiumheating rings.
Heating rings
Heating rings are suitable for dis-mounting the inner rings of cylin-drical roller bearings and needleroller bearings without lips and in-ner rings with one lip. Heatingrings are of particular advantagefor the occasional extraction ofsmall or medium-size bearing rings(bore diameters 50 to 200 mm).Heating takes 5 to 30 seconds de-pending on the ring size. The heating rings are made of lightmetal and they are radially slotted.Handling is facilitated by the heat-insulated handles.Heating rings are heated to200°...300°C by means of an elec-tric heating plate (e.g. FAG 172017or 172018, see above) and slipped
onto the inner ring to be extracted. After the inner ring has been ex-tracted, it has to be removed fromthe heating ring at once in order toprevent it from overheating. Each bearing size requires a spe-cial heating ring. On request FAGwill supply these heating rings as aspecial aluminium alloy design. For an offer we need the followinginformation:1. Bearing numbers or ring dimen-
sions,2. Drawing of the bearing location
with fit data.3. Approximate number of parts to
be extracted per day

Induction coils
HEATING DEVICES
Induction coils
Induction coils are suitable formounting and dismounting medi-um-size and large inner rings ofcylindrical roller bearings and nee-dle roller bearings. Each bearingsize requires a special coil (see al-so FAG Publ. No. WL 80 107).Besides low-voltage inductioncoils, FAG also offers coils that canbe operated with mains voltage.
Low-voltage coils
FAG induction coils that are oper-ated with harmless low voltage arewater cooled. They are connectedto a mobile transformer which canbe designed for any mains voltage. The voltage for the mounting coilcan be adjusted between 20 and 40 V.The transformers for the inductioncoils are offered by FAG in five
sizes (EFB20, EFB33, EFB50,EFB80, EFB125). Thus other rota-tionally symmetric parts likelabyrinth rings, couplings and ringrolls can be heated as well. Withthe largest transformer and the cor-responding induction coil, innerrings weighing up to 1200 kg canbe heated to the required mount-ing temperature of 80 °C...100 °C(for couplings a maximum mass of600 kg).

PRESSURE GENERATORS
Oil injector
The oil injectors’ delivery volumeis small; they can be used for dis-mounting of rolling bearings andother press-fitted assemblies direct-ly seated on tapered shafts (e.g.cylindrical roller bearings FAGNNU49SK, NN30ASK, N10K, N19Kin machine tools) with the hydrau-lic method.
The small oil injector (107640) canbe used for shaft diameters of upto 80 mm, the large one (107641)up to 150 mm.With the valve nipple the oil canbe filled up without any losses. Forthis purpose an oil injector plusvalve nipple, e.g. 107640 + 107642,should be ordered.
Oil injectors and valve nipples arealso available separately. Orderdesignations, see table.
Spare seals are standard O-rings: OR6x1,5 (for 107640), OR10x2,0 (for 107641).

Hand pump sets
FAG offer a hand pump set with aone-step pump and three handpump sets with a two-step pump.
The two-step pumps have a largedelivery volume in the low-pres-
sure range (up to 50 bar) and thenautomatically switch to the high-pressure stage. In this way a highworking speed is achieved. For ap-plications where larger amounts ofoil are required the two-steppumps are also available with an8-litre oil container (suffix .8L).
Where the mounting of adapter or withdrawal sleeves requires aseparate oil supply, we will supply on request a two-way valve (suffix .V).A detailed description of the FAGhand pump sets is provided in TI WL 80-46.

Feeler gauges 172031 and 172032
The feeler gauges are used formeasuring the radial bearing clear-ance, especially if the bearings are
mounted onto tapered shaft seatsor on adapter or withdrawalsleeves.
Taper measuring instruments
If a tapered bore bearing is directlyseated on the shaft, the taperedbearing seat must be precisely ma-chined to fully contact the bearingbore. FAG offers various devices
for measuring the taper. Most bear-ings with a tapered bore have a ta-per 1:12. Only spherical rollerbearings of series 240 and 241have a taper 1:30.
Taper gauge ring
This is the simplest way of measur-ing the tapered bearing seats ofsmall bearings on shafts. By bluingit is determined whether shaft andring gauge match, and correctionsare carried out until the ring gaugefits the shaft through its entirewidth. The inner rings of the bear-ings are not suitable for use as
gauge rings since their walls aretoo thin and might get damaged.FAG offers taper gauge rings for ta-per diameters from 30 to 240 mm.

FAG taper measuring instru-ment MGK 133
for male tapers with 1:12 and 1:30and taper diameters of 27 to 205 mm.The taper measuring instrumentFAG MGK 133 rests on the taperwith four hardened and polishedsupport bolts. These support boltsand a stop pin determine the posi-tion of the gauge on the taper. Thestop pin can be attached either tothe front or to the rear of thegauge. Inside the device are twomobile measuring straps; one ofthem measures the smaller taperdiameter, the other one measuresthe larger taper diameter at a de-fined distance from the first one.
An indicator shows the deviationof the taper diameter from the tar-get value at both measuring levels.
The reproducibility of the measur-ing results is within 1 µm. Themeasuring instrument is adjustedby means of a gauge taper sup-plied by FAG.
FAG taper measuring instru-ment MGK 132
for male tapers with taper anglesof 0° to 6° and taper diameters of90 to 510 mm.The reproducibility of the measur-ing results is within 1 µm. The taper measuring instrumentMGK 132 rests on the workpiecewith four hardened, ground andlapped ledges. The ledges form anangle of 90°. The position of thedevice on the taper is exactly de-fined by a stop pin at the front orat the rear of the device. The measuring carriage riding be-tween the support ledges is sup-ported by preloaded roller bear-ings. A dial gauge integrated intothe housing is applied to the meas-uring carriage and measures the
deviation of the taper diameterfrom the target value. An indicatorin the measuring carriage likewisecontacts the workpiece with its
bladeshaped tip and measures thedeviation of the taper from the tar-get value.

Boundary circle measuring instruments
Boundary circle measuringinstrument MGI 21
The boundary circle measuring in-strument is used for adjusting theradial clearance of cylindrical rollerbearings NNU4920K to NNU4964Kand NNU4920 to NNU4964, that is,for bearings with a bore diameter of100 to 320 mm. These bearingshave separable inner rings. The FAG boundary circle measuringinstrument MGI 21 measures the in-ternal boundary circle of the rollerand cage assembly by means of twohardened and precision-ground sur-faces, one of which is mobile. After mounting the outer ring, themeasuring instrument is adjusted tothe internal boundary circle of theroller and cage assembly. This value
is measured by means of a commer-cial dial-indicator snap gauge. This device allows the inner ring tobe adjusted to the diameter ensur-ing the desired radial clearance. Bearings with a tapered bore aredisplaced on the tapered seat of the
shaft. For bearings with a straightbore, rough-ground inner rings (suf-fix F12) are used which are finish-ground to the desired raceway di-ameter.. Order example for NNU4920:MGI21.4920
Boundary circle measuringinstrument MGA 31
for cylindrical roller bearingsNN3006K to NN3038K and N1006Kto N1048K with a tapered bore anda separable outer ring. With this measuring instrument theradial clearance or preload of thesecylindrical roller bearings can beaccurately adjusted. First, the raceway diameter of themounted outer ring is measured bymeans of a commercial internalmeasuring instrument. The mea-sured value is transferred to thehardened and precision-groundmeasuring surfaces of the bound-ary circle measuring instrument. Then the tapered shaft with thepremounted inner ring and roller
and cage assembly can be insertedin the measuring instrument. Theshaft is displaced axially with thehydraulic method until the indica-tor of the boundary circle measur-ing instrument indicates the valuespecified for the radial clearance orpreload.

Lubricator “Motion Guard“
ROLLING BEARING LUBRICATION
Automatic FAG lubricator “Motion Guard“
Reliable and economic lubrica-tion for a long bearing life
Rolling bearings are reliable ma-chine elements which have a longservice life. The most commoncause of failure is insufficient or in-correct lubrication. About 90% ofall bearings are lubricated withgrease. Thus, a reliable supply of asuitable grease is particularly im-portant.
With an automatic lubricator a suf-ficient amount of fresh grease isbeing constantly supplied to thecontact areas of the rolling bear-ings. The bearing service life is farlonger as a result. The reliable and
cost-effective devices extend lubri-cation and maintenance intervalsand eliminate the risk of supplyingtoo little or too much grease. Theplant downtimes are shorter, main-tenance costs reduced. The use ofeconomical and environmentallyfriendly lubricants contributestowards greater operational effi-ciency.
The FAG lubricator, Motion Guard,is individually adjusted to the bear-ing area and makes costly centrallubrication plants superfluous. Itcan be used everywhere: pumps, compressors and fans, conveyorplants, vehicles, etc.The lubricator is suitable for all Ar-canol greases described on pages38 to 40*).*) Design Compact see page 43.

VIBRATION DIAGNOSIS DEVICES
Detector · Bearing Analyser
Vibration diagnosis is the most reli-able method for detecting machinedamage at an early stage. Imbal-ances and faulty alignment can bedetected as well as rolling bearingdamage and gearing defects.
With state-of-the-art FAG devicesthe operator can carry out the vi-bration diagnosis alone.FAG offers the following mobilemonitoring devices: the Detectorand the Bearing Analyser.
Stationary monitoring devicesinclude a digital vibration monitorand the online monitoring systemVibroCheck.
FAG Detector
The Detector is a handheld meas-uring device that was developedtogether with the PC softwareDETECTOR TRENDLINE for meas-uring data in the offline monitoringof production plants. It is user-friendly and very easy tooperate. Due to its low weight it isthe ideal instrument for monitoringlarge plants where long distanceshave to be covered. The Detector monitors:• the absolute machine vibration
in accordance with ISO 10816• the rolling bearing condition by
means of the envelope detectionmethod.
The device features an outlet jackinto which any commerciallyavailable walkman headset can beplugged. This enables users to lis-ten to the running noise of anymachine and form an opinion re-garding the condition of a bearing. The Detector provides the charac-teristic values of the running noiseso that it can be evaluated objec-tively.

FAG Bearing Analyser
The FAG Bearing Analyser is an ef-ficient and reasonably priced vi-bration diagnosis tool for early de-tection of rolling bearing damageand gear damage. All types of damage that causenoise - i.e. vibration - are diag-nosed by means of the envelopedetection method. The time signal is broken up intoits frequency components bymeans of Fast Fourier Transforma-tion (FFT).In this way even damage in a com-plex machine can be unequivocal-ly allocated to a specific machine
element (gear, rolling bearing). The user is assisted by an “auto-matic diagnosis“ mode. If the bear-ing geometry and the speeds areknown, the software searches thefrequency spectrum for bearing-specific damage frequencies. If a threshold value is exceeded, the expert system alerts the user ofthe damage by triggering an alarm. In this way damage can be detect-ed and analysed regardless of theabsolute magnitude of the signalpower, even without a referencemeasurement.

VIBRATION DIAGNOSIS DEVICES
FAG DTECTX1
The DTECTX1 is an effective andfavourably priced online monitor-ing device. All commonly used ac-celeration, speed and displacementsensors can be connected to it.Process quantities such as speed, temperature, torque and pressurecan be recorded depending on theversion used. The signal measured by the sensoris broken up into its frequencycomponents by Fast Fourier Trans-formation (FFT). This permits mon-itoring of amplitudes for previouslyspecified threshold values withinvery narrow, defined frequencybands and triggering of an alarm ifthese values are exceeded. In thisway damage can be detected at anearly stage by means of frequency-
selective monitoring.DTECTX1 vibration monitors witha remote monitoring function per-mit reliable detection of damageand faults in machines without re-quiring the presence of a diagnosisexpert.DTECTX1 devices automatically re-port changes – via telecommunica-tion lines (fixed line modem, mo-bile phone modem or satellite mo-dem) – to the operator, the plantbuilder or the service provider, nomatter where on earth they areused! With this version, the modem per-mits remote access to theDTECTX1 at any time. Measureddata can be called up at any timefrom a distance and analysed bythe diagnosis centre.DTECTX1 devices of the next level
can automatically issue an alarm ifa threshold value is exceeded. Thus the DTECTX1 permits cost-ef-fective, condition-related mainte-nance.
FAG VibroCheck
The online monitoring systemVibroCheck is used for permanentmonitoring of vital machine ele-ments such as rolling bearings andgears. Not only vibration signalscan be measured but other physi-cal quantities like temperature, power, pressure etc. as well. Themeasured signals can also be usedfor a remote diagnosis. In addition to the general moni-toring of characteristic values, users are assisted by an automaticexpert system which indicatesdamage at an early stage. The sys-tem takes advantage of the factthat frequency analysis revealseven the smallest amplitudes of
periodic signals so that these sig-nals can be evaluated before theycan influence composite charac-teristic values. The expert systemgets its information from an auto-matically conducted frequencyanalysis. A bearing list contains allbearings and bearing elementsthat are to be monitored byVibroCheck.VibroCheck is suitable for use bothin machinery with rapidly wearingelements and in plants requiringrelatively little maintenance since itis highly reliable where the predic-tion of damage is concerned. VibroCheck minimises the risk ofunforeseen failure of machine ele-ments and contributes towards therapid repair of damage.

Rolling bearing mounting cabi-net and mounting sets: basiccourse for vocational training
Plenty of literature is available onthe correct mounting of rollingbearings but there is usually a lackof components for trainees to prac-tice on realistically. For this reasonthe FAG training shop instructorshave prepared a basic course. The objective of this basic courseis to convey the knowledge re-quired for suitable bearing selec-tion, appropriate mounting anddismounting, and bearing mainte-nance. The course is split into twoparts: a theoretical section dealswith the fundamental knowledgeof rolling bearings and a practicalsection imparts the fundamentalskills needed for mounting anddismounting.
In the theoretical section great sig-nificance was set on merging tech-nical drawing, computating andmechanical engineering into onetraining unit. The practical sectionconsists of practising the mountingand dismounting of common bear-ing types with mechanical and hy-draulic equipment on model-likesimplified mating parts of rollingbearings (shafts, housings). The teaching material is based onsmaller instruction steps and doesnot exceed the standard requiredin vocational training today. Other units such as gearboxes, pumps, spindles, car wheels etc.can be prepared for practical train-ing on the basis of this basiccourse.
