fusible webbing• Plastic template material• Heart Template

PreparationMake an entire plastic heart template using the 1⁄2 heart paper template as a guide. Cut out the heart. Trace 36 hearts on the paper side of the fusible webbing, leaving approximately 1” (2.54cm) between the hearts. Rough-cut each heart, outside the traced line. Fuse the heart to the wrong side of the designated fabrics, and cut out the appliqué on the drawn line.

CuttingWOF = Width of fabricCut pieces in the order listed, cutting the heart appliqués after other pieces are cut from the designated fabrics. When cutting the hearts, note that some prints are direc-tional.

Fabrics A, D, E, H, J, K, L, O, R, S, U and W, cut from each:(1) 121⁄2” (31.75cm) square(2) Hearts

Fabrics B, C, F, G, I, M, N, P, Q, T, V and X, cut from each:(2) 121⁄2” (31.75cm) square(1) Heart

Fabric Y, cut:Enough 21⁄2” (6.35cm) bias strips to make 300” (7.62m) of finished binding.

SewingNote: All seams are 1⁄4” (.64cm) and pieces are sewn right sides together, unless otherwise noted.

1. Using the quilt photograph as a guide, pair up (1) 121⁄2” (31.75cm) background square with (1) heart to make (36) sets.

2. Remove the paper backing from the heart and center it on the square. Following the manufacturer’s instructions, center and fuse the heart to the background square right side.

3. Using a coordinating color thread, edgestitch or zigzag the heart appliqué edges in place. Repeat for each block.

Quilt Top Assembly4. Using the quilt photograph as a guide, arrange the

blocks in (6) rows of (6) blocks each.5. Sew the blocks together into rows. Press seams in

adjacent rows in alternate directions.6. Matching adjacent seams, sew the rows together to

make the quilt to. Press seams in one direction.

Finishing7. Sew together the 21⁄2” x WOF (6.35cm x WOF) Fabric

Y binding strips end to end using diagonal seams. Press the seams open. Press the binding strip in half wrong sides together.

8. Layer the backing (wrong side up), batting, and quilt top (right side up). Baste the layers together and quilt as desired. Trim excess batting and backing even with the top after quilting is completed.

9. Leaving an 8” (20.32cm) tail of binding, sew binding to top of quilt through all layers matching all raw edges. Miter corners. Stop approximately 12” (30.48cm) from where you started. Lay both loose ends of binding flat along quilt edge. Where these two loose ends meet, fold them back on themselves and press to form a crease. Using this crease as your stitching line, sew the two open ends of the binding together right sides together. Trim seam to 1⁄4” (.64cm) and press open. Finish sewing binding to quilt.

10. Turn the binding to the back of quilt and hand-stitch in place
