Course Objectives:
The course aims to introduce students to basic knowledge and principle in chemistry.
Course Description:
It provides an introduction to the general principles of chemistry for students planning a
professional career in chemistry, a related science, the health professions, or engineering. By
the end of this course the student will be able to understand the following: Unites of
measurement: Significant figures, scientific notation, dimensional analysis and Temperature;
Atomic structure, naming simple compounds: binary ionic compounds (type I& II), binary
covalent compounds and naming of acids; Stoichiometry: Isotopes, the mole, molar mass and
percent composition of compounds; Balancing chemical equations; Limiting reactant;
percent yield; Reactions in aqueous solution; Solution stoichiometry; Gases: pressure, the
gas laws, Ideal gas law; Thermochemistry: energy, first law of thermodynamic, enthalpy,
calorimetry and Hess's law; Atomic structure and Periodicity; Bonding: general concepts:
electronegativity, bond polarity, Lewis structures and resonance; basic principles of organic
chemistry.

Safety rules, Chemical nomenclature, Acid radicals; Dil. HCl group Acid radicals; Conc.
H2SO4 group General group, General scheme for testing acid radicals + unknown, Basic
radicals (1-6), General scheme for testing base radicals + unknown; Determination of the
molecular weight of the volatile solution's vapor; Determination of percentage and number
of molecules of water of crystallization; Titration using different indicators; 1- Determination
of solubility product of sparingly soluble salt, 2- effect of common ion effect on the
solubility

Course Objectives:
The course aims to give students fundamentals of chemistry and to continue the Chem101,
also this course contains an introduction to physical and analytical chemistry.
Course Description:
Liquids and Solids: Intermolecular forces, Boiling point, Vapor pressure and changes of
state, phase diagram and Triple point. Properties of solution: solution composition, the
energy of solution formation, Factors affecting solubility. Chemical Kinetics: Reaction
Rates, Rate Law, Reaction Mechanisms. Chemical Equilibrium: The equilibrium constant,
Equilibrium Expressions involving pressure, Application of Equilibrium constant. Le

Course objective: Study the theoretical and experimental basis of different kinds of titrations and gravimetric
analysis and their applications
Course Description: Fundamentals of volumetric analysis, units of concentration. Acid-base titrations, Theory of
acid-base indicator, factors affecting sharpness of E.P. Redox titrations, indicators used.
Precipitation titrations, solubility of the precipitate and sharpness of E.P, factors affecting the
solubility of the precipitate. Complexometric titrations., Indicators used, chelate effect and
sharpness of E.P. Masking and demasking techniques. Gravimetric analysis, solubility
product and factors affecting the solubility of the precipitate. Source of precipitate
contamination and ways to overcome it. Inorganic and organic precipitating agents and
calculation in gravimetric analysis.

Course Objectives:
Introduction to the basic theories and principles of Inorganic Chemistry. Special emphasis on
applications to the chemistry of Main Group Elements.
Course Description:
Systematic introduction to theories of electronic and molecular structure, including quantum
chemistry, molecular orbital, valence bond and VSEPR approximations; molecular
geometry; general properties of elements in the periodic table, thermodynamics of inorganic
chemistry including ionic bonding in solids; acid-base theories; redox reactions; chemical

Course objective:
This course gives the student a detailed study of the chemistry of heterocyclic compounds,

Course Description:
The first part of the course includes the classification, structure and nomenclature of
aromatic five and six membered heterocyclic compounds with one heteroatom and their
