MA ENGLISH LINGUISTICS & LITERATURE

Riphah International University (WISH Campus) is essentially an ideological institution. It will be too naive to dismiss it as yet another addition to the existing ones in the country. Far from this, it is intended to produce women, who constitute half of the total population of this country, with quality education imbued with the spirit of Islam.

There is a long tradition of the study of English Literature in the Indo-Pak subcontinent. Nevertheless, it must be admitted that it has some pitfalls. We cannot separate literature from its culture and values of life. This being so, the impressionable mind is likely to be infected with the baneful philosophy of the west. To counter this, the teaching program is so organized that the teachers, whenever they come across anything repugnant to our values, present Islamic perspective as well and thus show how spurious the western philosophical precepts are. Another distinctive feature of this department is that we have introduced “Remedial English Language Programme” (RELP), the purpose of which is to develop the writing skill of students and how to write the answers of literature.

The department has undertaken an additional responsibility on itself for the benefit of students with no additional fee for this. It must be realized that most of the students fail because of their poor language competence. No university in Pakistan has taken any initiative in this direction. It is mandatory for students joining this department to undergo intensive remedial English language program to be arranged by the department.

MA English Linguistics & Literature program is spread over four semesters.

APPLIED PSYCHOLOGY

IntroductionApplied psychology is the use of psychological methods and findings of scientific psychology to solve practical problems of human and animal behavior and experience. Mental health, organizational psychology, business management, education, health, product design, ergonomics, and law are just a few of the areas that have been influenced by the application of psychological principles and findings. Some of the areas of applied psychology include clinical psychology, counseling psychology, evolutionary psychology, industrial and organizational psychology, legal psychology, neuropsychology, occupational health psychology, human factors, forensic psychology, engineering psychology, school psychology, sports psychology, traffic psychology, community psychology, medical psychology. In addition, a number of specialized areas in the general field of psychology have applied branches (e.g., applied social psychology, applied cognitive psychology).

However, the lines between sub-branch specializations and major applied psychology categories are often blurred. For example, a human factors psychologist might use a cognitive psychology theory. This could be described as human factor psychology or as applied cognitive psychology.

At Riphah International University , MSc Applied Psychology is Specifically designed Program, that deals with the major fields of psychology with Special focus on clinical psychology.
