Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences
The Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences makes a significant annual contribution to South Africa’s research capacity, as well as to the development of new scientific knowledge. The quality of our research and academic programmes is world class, and the Faculty prepares dynamic and innovative graduates for a wide variety of disciplines and careers.
The successes and achievements of our students and graduates grant the Faculty recognition as one of the top science faculties at tertiary institutions in South Africa. We are proud to say that our Faculty attracts most of the best students in South Africa. At postgraduate level our students participate actively in research projects under the supervision of internationally recognised researchers. This approach ensures a continuing growth in research outputs and it is therefore a priority for the Faculty to maintain significant growth through the presentation of specialised MSc and PhD programmes.
The Faculty is also a basis for postgraduate studies at honours, master’s and doctoral level in this and certain other faculties.

THE BSc FOUR YEAR PROGRAMMEThe new BSc four-year programme provides access to science and science-based degree programmes by setting lower entrance requirements compared to the entrance requirements for the BSc/BScAgric degree programmes. It offers intensive training in order to prepare students for further studies in the normal science and science-based degree programmes. The programme is accessible to all Grade 12 candidates.
The programme is offered in English. Successful candidates are placed at the Mamelodi Campus for their first year of study and accommodated in the nearby luxurious Tuks Naledi Residence within the safe Savannah Estate in the east of Pretoria.
After their first year of study, successful candidates will continue with their second year at the Hatfield Campus.
The duration of the programme is 18 months (three semesters). After successfully completing the programme, students will have obtained credits equivalent to the first semester of the first year of the BSc/BScAgric degree programmes and may register for the second semester of the first year of the BSc/BScAgric degree programmes.
