Jack The Bear

Canada's most honoured record producer passed away at 81on May 31, 2011. He is well known as a Hall of Fame andOrder of Canada member and as Producer of The Guess Who,Bob Seger, Alice Cooper and countless others. JackRichardson is less well known for his substantial contributionsto Fanshawe College's Music Industry Arts program, as ateacher at Harris Institute for 13 years and as a regular lectur-er at most other schools. As part of the 'International Tour Management' course coordi-nated by senior students at Harris and the University of theWest of Scotland, MJ Cyr became the first Canadian artist totour in the UK. She performed at The Buff Club, Renfrew Ferryand The Toolhouse in Glasgow; Powers Bar, Club 229, MissQ's and Hope & Anchor in London; The UWS Union in Paisleyand Holly Bush in Hereford. Harris Honours grad JamesFindlay was the Tour Manager. Cyr attended an ITM class fol-lowing the tour to express her appreciation.

New Barbados Scholarships

The Copyright Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers(COSCAP) announced two annual scholarships to attendHarris Institute at its awards gala at the Hilton Barbados. Thecollege's president, John Harris, acknowledged the COSCAPinitiative at the event that featured an 'Award of Excellence” forShontelle and performances by Barbadian artists. Train is cur-rently the Administration and Communication Director at theMusicians Rights Organization of Canada (MROC) and waspreviously the Manager of Communications at FACTOR(Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Recordings) and theOnline Licensing Administrator at CMRRA (Canadian MusicalReproduction Rights Agency). Trevor Coleman is the Chief Operations Officer ofInteraXon, a company that produces brainwave controlledexperiences. Eric McLuhan, the award winning lecturer and author oncommunications and media, has three recently publishedbooks. Theories of Communications (Hampton Press),Media and Formal Cause (NeoPoiesis Press) and TheHuman Equation (BPS Books) are currently available andthree other books are in preparation. Colleen Brennan is the Production Coordinator for the 16-partHip Hop documentary series that will air on Aux TV starting inJune. Unique Mentor Program

Two of Canada's national music industry associations havepartnered to create an unprecedented mentoring programfor senior Harris students. The Music Managers Forum(MMF) Canada and the Urban Music Association ofCanada (UMAC) will present one-on-one mentoring ses-sions for students with international and national leadersfrom all facets of the music industry. A 'networking lunch'with members of MMF and UMAC and a panel discussionby the guest mentors will follow the one-on-one sessions.

Goodman Wins Troiano Scholarship

Toronto's Alex Goodman has won the 2011 Domenic TroianoGuitar Scholarship. He receives $10,000 to pursue post-sec-ondary guitar education. Goodman's most recent release,'Convergence', was listed as one of the top ten jazz records of2010. Trustees for the Troiano Scholarship are Kevin Breit, RikEmmett, John Harris, Shawne Jackson-Troiano, BernieLaBarge, Alex Lifeson, Jim Norris and Frank Troiano. Grad’s National Music Competition

Pavlo has launched a cross Canada music competition withGrammy Award Winner Liberty Silver and 'Smooth JazzBroadcaster of the Year' Vickie Van Dyke. The 25 finalists willreceive cash awards and the winner will perform with Pavlo atRoy Thomson Hall on February 24, 2012. A distinguishedpanel of 10 judges will adjudicate the competition. Willard Bond and Demetrius Nath have joined the HarrisFaculty. Bond was the top graduate of 'The RecordingWorkshop' in Chillicothe, Ohio in 1984, has worked withLoreena McKennitt, Rush, Blue Rodeo and The StratfordFestival and is a 3rd degree black belt in karate. Nath is theGeneral Manager of Dale Speaking Ltd., has worked withBroken Social Scene, Alexisonfire and Feist and is an HonoursGraduate of Harris. Bond is teaching Signal Processing andNath is teaching Video & Radio Promotion.

Terneille 'TaDa' Burrows launched the Music MomentumSummit (MuMo) at the British Colonial Hotel in Nassau,Bahamas. Andrew Kilgour produced and engineered D-Sisive's'Vaudeville' and engineered and mixed Ghettosocks 'Treatof the Day' at his home studio “The Kilzone”.
